Default SD starter heat shield, TMI!

According my 1974 FB assembly manual (page) UPC 6Y2 sheet 1, item #8 part# 466430 Shield D/LS2.
Unless I'm mistaken, D/LS2 would indicate not used on super duty starters . W/LS2 would indicate used with LS2 starter.
My recent personal experience of trying to fit an OEM Pontiac double layer metal starter heat shield, as shown below, on my super duty was negative. Did not have enough room.

My 74 SD had a shield.
(I still have it somewhere I think, buried though)

The 'D' does not mean delete?
Forget what it means off-hand, though.
(they used some strange initals for a lot of things in there)

Has anyone ordered and received the new 1973-1974 Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty 455 book?
I bought the SD book last June. The SD Hagerty valuation guide in that book is pretty amazing!

I just talked to a friend of mine, an original 74 TA 4 Speed owner.

Would have thought the manual tranny would have one for sure?
(mine was automatic)

What month was it built?

I think June or July 74, I know he had to wait several months to get the car. He also said his original starter has never been replaced and it is a 1108500, a different number than you normally hear of.

Just to clarify, I ment to say original 74 "SD" TA 4 Speed owner. I left out the important letters, SD!

Put a heat shield on it and move on. The ambiguity of the responses so far tells you all you need to know. We all know it needs a shield and no one knows whether it had one or not. No judge will be willing to crawl so far under your car to knock off points based on this, but when you stop to get gas you’ll be happy you had one. Next...

Default Shield

Just found the part number of the shield looked it up and states it`s for 75 and newer. Not worried about judges bent wheel so I don`t think I`ll be moving on just yet but thanks for the encouragement, maybe you can if you don`t have anything positive to post. I like my cars to be as correct as I can make them for my own personal satisfaction.

I'm pretty sure his buddies are bidding it up for him, because nobody in their right mind would pay over mid-20s for all this would they? Anyways, I figured I would post it here on the off chance somebody out there has a '74 SD T/A in Admiralty Blue with a white interior with NOM. The background pic shows the car itself back in the day before he sold it.

Interesting and sad story/scenario. Would indeed be cool if the blue '74 is still out there somewhere....

This car just needs underside pics ( no undercoating hopefully)
AND a big trash can for the
HOLLEY , the dash timing adjuster,
The MSD BS under hood
Valve cover and studs, or wing studs
air breathers in valve covers,
the spark plug wires.
IF one is trying to impress with what it once was, why go "off the path" so much?
people with a Jegs catalog get bored too often LOL
all>. IMHO
