This one:

This same car was at the Mecum Indy auction last May. I remember it (and the 73&up front fenders) It bid to $90 there.

How do you tell the difference in fenders from 70-72 vs. 73 up?
Does this difference apply only to TAs or all Firebirds for those years?

the main difference is that there is a raised area in the inner brace with 2 bolt holes for the core support brace on the '73 and up fenders. Another difference is in the hood hinge area where the earlier fender have a captured nut while the later ones have slots with j-nuts for the hinge bolts.

All birds, and the small "hump" with two mounting holes for the brace above the wheel well area in the middle of the fender, is the easy way to spot newer fenders.

70-72 doesn't have these on them. This bump with two holes is for the 73 and up fender to rad support braces

I actually thought that car would go for more, especially considering the prices other Pontiacs brought at Barrett-Jackson. A 1969 Trans Am, standard RAIII with auto trans, went for $148,500.

Mecum predicted $150K-$200K for this 1970 RAIV Trans Am, so I think it came up a little short.

But damn, what a cool looking car.

It's made the auction rounds - probably crossed the block 5 times at Mecum events in the past few years. I think this is the highest bid it's gotten.

Not sure if that means prices are on the up, or it just finally found the right bidder.

I did scan some of the Mecum Kissimee results (auction still has one more day I think), and prices for the nicer Pontiacs seem to be noticeably up from where they were 6 months ago.

It IS a nice car .... likely would have gotten closer to 200k if it was a stick....

Was the actual auction shown or did it go through during a commercial break,as per usual for Pontiacs?

Newer fenders, newer fan shroud, and no cowl weatherstrip for that kinda money. I wonder what a really nice, correct car would bring at some of these sideshows. Wait, I forgot that most of these buyers don't know what they are looking at either way.

Dana bought that car in Dallas for 105. You're right the car has been to four or five auctions. It's always bid to around 100k. Now it's sell for 147500? Things that make you go hmmm. It's actually a pretty nice car.

I was watching on their live stream on the internet when it went thru, just before they came back on TV @ 6:30. A 70 RA IV GTO sold during that time period also for $111,000. (Not a Judge)

I was there today but unfortunately did not see this TA. I left around 4:30 pm. I did see the nice 69 TA. Very well done but had a few "quirks". Mostly little stuff like wrong finish on hardware. Also noticed it did not have the 2 piece alternator bracket. It only had the one piece that bolted to the thermostat stud and did not have the one that attached to the water pump bolt. I though all 69 V8 cars used both pieces? My 69 Firebird 400 and 69 Lemans does.

That is a nice car but a few things aren't correct. Black gauge bezels, wrong fenders, and under the hood really needed a detail.

How many Blue RA IV's do you see.

Anybody notice something strange in the side shots???

Driver side shot shows Goodyear polyglass tires and the passenger side shot shows Wingfoot radials??

Pictures are small but those wheels don't look like 1970 rally's either....exhaust tips,,,,yada yada

You guys already mentioned the 73 and up fenders...Most things are easy to correct but the fenders are a major issue.

What else is missing on this thing, I'd almost hate to think. And it still brought $147k?? Sorry but that's ridiculous money for a car missing so many pieces. I generally refrain from nit picking but when you pay 150 large for a car it better be right,,,,,just sayin'
Just goes to show you that BJ isn't the only place where things can sell for crazy money. All it takes are 2 people that want it.
