Default 72 455 HO Intake value

Found a 72 455 HO intake stored in my parts storage.
One hole on water crossover may need helicoil or might be ok. Top thread issue.
Has been glass beaded. Part number ends in 40.
Trying to figure value.

Glass beading affects the value to a certain extent since it alters the factory cast finish.

I agree with you on that however the 1971 and 1972 HO intakes get painted unlike the 1969 and 1970 RAIV intakes.

Were the over the counter 455HO intakes painted or natural aluminum finish?

I have a 1972 intake dated around 1975 and it appears to be natural but clear coated. I was never sure what the finish should be.

I had both a 71 and 72 455 HO intakes for sale a few years ago and ended up getting around $300-400 each.

They were both nice, no issues ,but oddly no one was wanted them.

I really like and think the 1971-72 455 HO cars and engines are amazing ,however the general buying public does not feel the same way.

Thanks to everyone for the good info.
I knew they were painted from factory.
I will put up for sale and see if someone can use it.
I had forgotten that I had it.

Kinda like hiding a $100 bill in your wallet, and forgetting you had put it there, and then stumbling on it at a later time..........

Better than finding $100. Bill. Pontiac parts.

Once put in boxes, you can't see it. Have found several parts while looking for something else lately.

Got some more shelves so i can get "organized"

I am the only one who can find it,and sometimes that doesn't work.

Whether or not you have the heat cross over parts plays a big roll in price. I usually see a lot of them for sale without the heat cross over stuff in the $300 range around my area.

I just recently saw a complete setup at the Goodguys swap meet with all the cross over parts for $500 and it sat there all weekend.

Not everyone needs that intake. I know that.
Mainly people who need for 72 Restoration.
Will advertise and maybe someone is looking for it.
Not eating cat food ,so not giving away.

Agree, doesn't seem to be demand around here, plus they've reproduced them and all the parts to go with them for quite a while now. And the reproduction I bought a few years ago I showed at the track it is a pretty decent piece compared to an OEM intake.

Could use a crossover with shields for a 72 HO if you know the guy

Unfortunately Telly, while I do know the guy and see him twice a year, he's the biggest intake seller at the swap meets around here, I have no way of contacting him until he shows up at the next swap meet.

Default Agree that $500 for a factory intake is a giveaway price. Even without a crossover.

If it's a factory 485640 casting intake and still has the 1972-only small opening crossover and shields attached via rivets, it's worth at least $1200-$1500.

That intake manifold alone is worth between $900 and $1200, especially to someone with either an early-1972-built 455HO or a 1973 SD455.

Several of the restoration guides make reference to the 485640 casting being an SD455 engineering 'prototype', even though they never made it onto the production SD455 engines.

An early-1973 SD455 owner might want to use it on his engine to replicate the performance of the prototype SD455 engine design.

The crossover alone is worth $400-$500, probably more if the choke stove is still intact, since it's the only one that works on 1972-up heads.

Good luck!
