Default Sub-frame Question

Was wondering about the hole in both front frame horns....above the sway bar

It is a 3/8 nc weld nut on the inside.

This is on a 72...but I suspect sub-fame was changed out.

I have a 75 subframe with that hole...but checked several other 70-72'a and they don't

You could check the date code on the subframe?
(driver side on the back at the slant of the end)

Not sure what the threaded hole would be for. Possibly for factory movements/holding fixture/alignments?

This is a 73 frame, looks like it has the hole, can't tell if threaded though.

I have a couple of 73's I haven't checked yet.....

If they have them.......It may have something to do with the new 5 mph bumper crash test for 73...on the Camero.?

I seem to recall there was was some sort of tubular brace on the front end of them.........

I "think" it is for a loop, or loom bolted on frame for the + red Batt cable to the starter on a chevy engine. Usually self tap 5/16 bolt was used, no nut on back. Firebirds in 70 to 75 could have come with a chevy engine and starter and Battery on Pass side.( yes battery tray gets mounted on pass side ) Don't see this hole or dimple on any of my 1970 frames though all mine are 400 v-8 cars.

Interesting.
That hole and nut are not present in the one 70 subframe I have in my garage at the moment.
Curious what it might have been intended for.

Ok......checked a few more...

Out of four 73's......one has the holes in the frame....but no weld nut.

74 and 75...both have a 3/8 nc weld nut.....as does the 72?.....in my original post..

I guess tomorrows job will be to pull the stamped #'s off the back of the frame rail......and see what they say...

FWIW, four spare subframes here, 1 '70, 1 '71 & 2 '72's. No holes there in any of them.
