Waterpump Overdrive Pulley Kit Group Buy
I've contacted an aluminum pulley manufacturer concerning the "PONTIAC" crests lack of REASONABLY PRICED pulley availability. Seems our prayer ahve been answered. He currently offers a direct drive (1-1 ratio) pulley kit for Pontiacs as well as power steering pump pulleys and alt fas as well. these kits sell for $137 for the complete kit and $20 S&H. The kit consists of 1 the following:
V Belt Pulley kit for Pontiac Big Block Engines (350-400, 428, 455). Designed for use with stock power steering and alternator brackets. We also have alternator fans and power steering pulleys available for Pontiac Engines. This is a great price! (This pulley kit sells for more than $212 from March) MADE IN USA from aircraft quality 6061-T6 aluminum. Application Traditional Pontiac V-8 engines (overdrive water pump) Fits vehicles with: 1) 1968 or newer dampener 2) And 1969 or newer water pump (4.5" from flange to engine block) Pontiac Pulley Kit Contents: Water Pump Pulley Grooves: 2 Pulley Diameter: 5.5" Pilot Diameter: 0.625" Crankshaft Pulley: Grooves: 2 Crank Pulley Diameter: 7.25" Crank Pulley Bolt Pattern: 4 Bolt Alternator Pulley: Diameter: 2.7" Alternator Shaft Diameter: 11/16" Alternator Fan Sold Separately Available Finishes: - Machined Material: 6061-T6 Billet Aluminum Made in the USA Pontiac Pulley Kit Compares to: March Performance pulley kit 13030. He has agreed to make a kit consisting of 1 7.25" crank pulley, 1 5.5" WP pulley and an alt pulley for the 15% off per kit for a group buy ($116.45 + $20 S&H for all 3 pulleys).....only stipulation is we need 25 orders to get it rolling. I'll have to talk over the payment options if there is enough demand for the kit. He initially wanted a 50 order minimum, but stated that if we could get 25 kits ordered, he would shelve the remaining 25 kits as stock and make them a regular item. If ya want a screamin' deal on pulleys....e-mail me or PM me. Once we get 25 people wanting the overdriven waterpump kits, I'll contact him to see how he wants to work out the payments. I'd prefer it be on a one on one basis with each person paying him as I stand to make nothing on this deal. I only want to be able to buy 1 kit and see that the kit is available to us at a price only the funny little orange engine owners have been getting all along. Here's a pic of the one to one kit available now. It is representative of what the overdriven waterpump kit will look like with different sized crank and waterpump pulleys. |

I'm in. Bummer it won't fit the 67 block, as I've got an issue with my Firebird...

Forgot to mention...CVF Racing also has alternator fans and power steering pulleys that can be added to the kit at an additional....albeit very reasonable cost (read SBC pricing).

if these were in a single groove config i would buy a set for sure as my 535 turbo runs hot with the march underdrive set.

I'm hoping that if we can get enough orders to get this overdrive pulley kit into production, he will realize there are many other pulleys needed for our crest and take an interest in providing the pulleys we need/want. There's definately money to be made providing quality pulleys for Pontiacs at reasonable prices. Are both the WP pulley and the crank pulleys you currently have one groove or just the WP pulley?

So What alternator bracket/power steering bracket would i need with these? Lets say im starting fresh. Just an 11 bolt waterpump cover on a 73' 400 in my 67' GTO. Would 67' Brackets work? {I have those} or will i need to get a different year to make all this stuff work?
PS Im about 99% sold on this i just want to get my details figured out first. |

I think the '67 bracketry is identical to the '66 bracketry. I'm using my '66 stuff w/ a late model (4 1/2" depth) WP and the late model pulleys. A did need to space the bracket on the drivers side head out about 3/8"-1/2" to get things to line up correctly.
It's been 6600 rpm and never thru a belt or had any problems. I used nuts between the brkt & the head to space it out. |

You could have the front belt groove machined off of one of these crank pulleys but the WP pulley will still need to be deep enough to line up with the shortened crank pulley (I may even be able to convince CVF Racing to remove the outer groove before they remove it from their CNC machine) . Even if you find a single groove WP pulley....it will still be the same depth as the double one because you must align that 1 belt. You can't go out any farther on the crank pulley because you need the clearance there. Doesn't sound like you have to many options. This kit....while not being a single groove, will fit in the same space as the ones you have (I'm assuming...if you machined off the front groove on the crank pulley) but.... it will overdrive the waterpump....which it sounds like you need.
We've got 12 kits ready to order and 1 on the fence...(checking measurements for a RARE timing cover). So tentatively we need at the very least 12 or 13 more people that want an overdrive pulley set-up for their Pontiac V-8 at Small Block Chevrolet pricing. If it doesn't work out....there's always the $200 March underdrive set-up. I seem to get one order every day or every other day, so we're creeping a little bit closer to that magic minimum order number of 25 slowly. Last edited by Bnick166; 03-04-2010 at 09:33 PM. |

O.K.....15 orders pending. We still need 10 more orders. Things seem to be leveling off and I'm beginning to think we're not gonna make the 25 order minimum. I'm considering contacting them to see if we have garnered any leverage with the amount of orders that we currently have.
Can't hurt to ask. |

I've contacted CVF Racing about our waning pulley orders and this was their reply:
15 orders is very impressive! We realize that 15 orders may not translate into 15 sales and since your group is unable to draw 25 orders, we will design the Overdrive Water Pump Pulley Kit and put them up for sale at the regular price ($137 + $20 S&H). We will issue all buyers of this kit a coupon code to use and if you ever get up to 25 orders on that coupon code, We can issue a rebate of 10% (We can't offer the full 15% since we will have the inventory carrying costs from now until whenever the full 25 kits sell). It will take about 8-10 weeks to get everything designed, programmed and manufactured. Hopefully, that fits your groups timeline? We are extremely busy right now because we are adding 3 groove A/C pulleys and single groove alternator pulleys for all our product lines. We are also adding billet P.S. and Alt brackets for Ford. We would be interested in doing Pontiac brackets, but that is going to be further down the road and we need to get an engine to help design them up. Where do you get your brackets made if you don't mind me asking? Do you know anyone that makes a decent set of Pontiac Brackets? If these do well, we may add the alternator only option in overdrive but right now I am a little overwhelmed with new products. We are trying to get everything released before the spring rush.... We may be able to do better than the 8-10 weeks, but we always like to under promise and over deliver. It's not really the design that is the bottle neck. We can have the have drawings done in a day or two since it is very similar to our existing pulleys. It's more about re-programming the CNC, getting the right size material in, scheduling etc (7.25" is bigger than anything we currently make). Just getting the material in will take about 2-3 weeks. We are a relatively small company, but we are growing like crazy. We've sold more in the first 2 months of 2010 than we did in all of 2009! That kind of growth has put a strain on our resources. On top of that, we are adding 30+ new pulleys / brackets in March / April. Our goal is to get these new products out in time for spring fever when everyone up north gets their cars out of storage. We will shoot for 6-8 weeks on the water pump overdrive pulley kits.. |
