Share your 500”+ *STREET* engine cam info
Looking to get a list of big (500+”) *street* engine cam info to get a feel for the range being used in our engines. Street car = car is street driven. Street/strip is fine, long as the car is street driven.
Please list: Cubic Inches Cam design (hydraulic/solid, flat/roller) Cam duration- “advertised“ Cam duration- @ .050 Lobe lift Compression Transmission Rear gear If dyno’d, share results if you’d like Bonus points for pic of engine in car. Chit stirring = point deductions.

You are asking folks to do a lot of work. Here's one example (motor in my judge):
http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...ighlight=judge 1969 400 RAIII block, .040" over at 4.160". 408CID Stock crank RPM I-Beam rods Icon 14cc dished pistons, forged 1/16"x1/16"x3/16" plasma Moly rings #48 heads, CNC ported by Dave at SD Performance. Flow at .500" was around 254/214'ish 9.5:1 compression Ferrea 2.11"/1.77" SS valves Valve spring pressure = 155-160 lbs. on the seat, and around 400 open Factory cast iron Q-jet intake, ported RAIII Q-jet, rebuilt[A/F ratio's were real nice, in the mid to upper 12's in the mid to upper rpm range Lunati Voodoo hydraulic roller cam, 227°/233° @ .050", 278 °/282° Adv., 110° LSA, .530" lift, degreed to 105° ICL Hylift/Johnson slow bleed hydraulic roller lifters Harland Sharp 1.5 ratio roller rockers 8.800", .083" wall 1 piece pushrods Stock points distributor with Petronix conversion Factory RAIII exhaust manifolds with stock openings, and a 5' long, 2.5" pipe bolted on. Dynoed with 91 octane pump gas. These numbers are with 32° total timing. We tried 34° and it made slightly less torque and HP. Just for S&G's, we tried 36° and it made the most hp[461 @ 6000 rpm], but torque was down a little. 32° gave us the highest peak torque, as well as the highest average torque, and HP of the 3 different timing events. At 32° timing it made 475 ft. lbs., and 454 HP peak.

Most info is in the signiture.
4.35x4.350 bore & stroke. Potential for much more power with carb, cam, compression changes but fits the definition of a street car that can be driven across the country on pump gas. Starts at the touch of the key, idles at 800 in gear and drives smooth at low speeds. At this time I’m not willing to give up any of that drive ability for more power, it has enough. Biggest drawback is it’s a death trap with normal street radials, stick DOT tires required.

How does this differ from B-man's thread on engine builds? It would save someone time from having to sort through all the builds looking for 500+ inch engines but I haven'tcome across that many500+ builds on this street section. If you haven't looked at B-man's thread, it was started in 2007 and some big builds on it are done by folks who haven't posted in years so you would find info that wouldn't appear in this thread, Just sayin'.
http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=520102 (Member GTO JONES has one of those 500+ inch monsters and could be a good source of info if he doesn't see this thread. http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...r.php?u=147940 )

65 GTO hardtop.
M23 ultra wide muncie 3.54 Strange S60, 28 inch tires 87 cc old round port e-heads, ported with 2.19/.77 valves Performer RPM, 850 quick fuel double pumper (very similar to a 4781) IA2 block, 505 CID eagle forged crank and 6.8 h beams BRC 2618 pistons Approx 10:1 MSD Ready to run with programmable 6AL2 Old Faithful 1.0 with Comp hyd roller lifters Rev limiter set at 5500 Pure street car. Never been to a show or the drag strip, maybe never will. Take it out on country roads after the kids go to bed and get my giggles. I have some things to do to clean up the engine compartment but it runs great and I am making progress on the little things. Last edited by i82much; 11-08-2020 at 01:20 PM. |

Are you looking for 500+ cubic inch combos or 500+ horsepower combos?

Not 500+ horsepower, though one would expect most would be making at least that much with a 500” plus combo.

I asked myself the same question... HP or cubic inches ! I also spaced the "inch" mark after the 500.

I thought he was looking for more than 1/2 inch of lift in the cam (e.g. .500"+ engine CAM info).

There are quite a few very successful 500+" Pontiac builds that are street driven. Couple guys I know don't post in here however.
Dad's combo has been doing it for I think going on 7 years now. 571 ci with a 4.350" bore and 4.750" crank. An old set of ported Edlebrock round port heads, 10.84:1 compression. Started off with a custom solid roller with 269/279 @ .050 and .703/.711 lift, on a 110 lsa. The combo made 724hp/764tq with the chassis headers and 4150 carb on 91 pump gas. He later switched to a custom hydraulic roller with 261/265 @ .050 on a 112 lsa and I think the lift is in the .660's but I don't have that card in front of me at the moment. I do remember this one being a Harold designed lobe, partially from the newer Voodoo profile on the intake side and the older Ultradyne profile on the exhaust side that Paul Carter spec'd to mimic the solid roller. This cam is also a 4-7 swap. The rest of the car is simple. 400 turbo, custom converter, 3.42's out back, full exhaust system and all the creature comforts the car was born with when dad bought it new. 100% street car and driven everywhere. It's actually surprisingly docile, runs cool, idles all day long and does 300 mile road trips in the AZ heat without complaint, and routinely climbs up and down the mountain passes here in Northern Arizona. It's been a fantastic engine. |

Sorry for the confusion... yes, referring to 500 cubic inch “plus” (and bigger) engines. I appreciate all the effort, the more info the better. But if it helps simplify it, an example of what I’d like to see would be:
535 cid Hydraulic roller 304/310 advertised 260/268 duration @.050 .400 lobe lift 10.5 compression M-22 4 speed 3.73 gear But, no harm in sharing more if you are able/willing! Also, I’m aware of b-mans thread. Just specifically curious about big inch engine setups.
