Default Lot of 8 engines for sale on Craigslist, Western WA

https://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/p...446444760.html

There doesn’t seem to be many Washingtonians on this board, but I figured I’d post this up. Maybe someone knows the guy? Not my ad, but this guy obviously had the Poncho bug. If I had more space I’d pick these up, some good parts.

I’d have to see them first, to see how much is good ( to me). 326’s and 350’s are not in high demand. A wounded 400 is a maybe...

I live here in Warshington. Don't cruise craigslist much for Poncho parts. Nothing here for me to get excited about, not to mention I have no room to store them. Already have 6 4 bangers and a few V8s taking up space.

Seems like a bit ambitious on price. One of those motors may have value to that guy restoring a special car needing something date coded. Hate to say but other than that they are boat anchors. My neighbor passed away several years ago and had a similar stash. Had at least 10 blocks, mostly 400's. His widow ended up giving them away I think they went to scrap. I had a slight interest but did not want to be the next guy in line storing a bunch of iron waiting on the next caretaker.

Agreed, but I think they’re gonna get a bit more valuable at some point. There’s only so many decent Pontiac blocks left out there, not every car has to be a tire fryer. The heads on the 350s could be useful for a 400 build. I’m building a pair of 17s at the moment.

Howdy! Looks like you’re about an hour and a half North of me. I know it’s a drive for you, but do you make it down to the Griot’s Pontiac show? And yeah the space issue is real. I have 3 engines and that’s already too much for me.

Half of those engine aren’t anything special or desirable, quite frankly they’re probably worth about what the scrap yard will pay. The only way to get your money for 326 and 350 engines is to part out the sheet metal and other small pieces. Out of the 8 engines maybe 3 are really worth buying. By the time those 326 and 350s are going up in value will be about the same time your heirs are tossing them into the scrap bin.

That couple of 400 engines are definitely worth getting but demanding someone take all 8 of those engines for 2k is dreaming.

Shame on the blocks getting scrapped, but I can definitely understand not wanting to get stuck dragging around 150 lb blocks. Out of curiosity, how much does a 400 go for in everyone else’s area? ~6 months ago I sold a disassembled 1971 400 long block for $600. Which is in line with what I’ve seen available around here.

I'd love to build a 326 a couple years down the road. FI, overdrive, in the lightest early to mid 60's body I could find. A nice high mpg daily driver.

Haha probably true. Hopefully I’m not dragging around a bunch of dead engines by then, seen too many guys with a rolling chassis and “big plans”. I imagine he’ll get a lot of interest in a couple blocks, but can’t see a guy pulling up in a trailer and loading up 8 blocks and driving away.

Last summer, I was waiting on a machine shop to get to my engine(still am, sadly), I found a rebuilt .040 over 326 on Craigslist, took it home for $450. Freshened it up, was back on the road in a couple weeks. I’m honestly pretty impressed by the little 326, it does good up to 4k. That would be a cool project, are you thinkin one of the early compact LeMans/Tempests?

I bought a clapped out 400, wanted it mostly just for the brackets and maybe a rebuild down the road. I paid $300 for it about 5 years ago. I am having the 400 rebuilt for my TATA right now and will have quite a bit more than that when finished.

I'd probably have to go with a 64 or 65 ... since I know so little about the earlier models. Assuming 64-65 are lighter than the 66 and later. My first car was a 66 Tempest with a 326. I thought it was an amazingly reliable engine, I swear at 90K miles the oil would come out cleaner than it went in. Love to find a Tempest custom ... saw one in Red and White once, optioned to hilt, nice looking car.

Anyway ... I'd use lots of modern bells and whistles but a stock exterior look, as many light weight parts as I could find. Shoot for something that would get better than 20 mpg highway, not a hot rod, just a light, reliable, simple V8 powered car.
