GTO Regeneration: Next-gen Pontiac muscle car reportedly will hit market in '08
BOB GRITZINGER
Posted Date: 8/3/05
What you see in this illustration is a fairly close rendition of what we can expect when the next-generation Pontiac GTO hits the market in 2008. We say “fairly close” because we’ve seen the super-secret spy photos upon which it is based, and the actual shots show a sleeker, wider, lower and, frankly, far more appealing car.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is General Motors’ Aussie division Holden reportedly may not start cranking out these future Goats until 2008, a full two years after production ceases on the 2006 Holden Monaro-based GTO.
One more tidbit: It’s not shown here, but we hear GM is considering doing this GTO as a four-door coupe, using rear-hinged rear-access doors without visible handles.

It could be alot worse
I actually like the new design. It takes alot more cues from the original GTO's from what I can tell. For me alot of my first post college car will depend on what the new Camaro looks like and if the GTO actually looks like what this photo is showing. I think GM is getting on the right track and listening to people finally.
Just my 2 cents

Hmmm. Not really feelin' it. Looks like they crossed the current version with a Mustang then gave it some angular lines like a Caddy. I'll stick the one I've got.

I like the looks better than the 04-05 GTO. I think GM is heading in the right direction with the new old look. I hope this one ends up being built some day.

I like the rear panels on that Stanfield design, if they could work those into the design they might actually have something. 2008 is a long way away though. I thought you hated retro cues Mr. GTO!

Funky, but it will not be mistaken for a Mitsubushi, that's for sure...

Coming out with a four door? Oh ya bring it on, bury the name deeper into the ground.
The front end looks like the older grand prix's from the late eighties, how cheap can they get?

My wife's Honda Element has clamshell doors. It's ugly, yes, but I like everything about it except the rear doors. True suicide doors (like my dad's '66 Lincoln had) would be cool, but the front doors overlapping the rears is a royal PITA. I sure hope they don't do this with the GTO. I'd much rather have a 2-door and need a shoehorn to get in the back seat (like now) than have a pseudo-4-door. Plus any GTO should have only two doors, period. 4 doors=LeMans.

No 2007 GTO? A four door GTO?....I guess I was wrong on that one also..NOT. I should have bet all the GM Monaro Glee Club owners a $100.00. I'd be rich.

Too freakin Mustang and Mitsu looking. I hope we'll see what the final product looks like at NAIAS. I may have to hold on to my 06 version.
