Would you buy the New GTO if they changed the styling?
If Pontiac decided to do a Modern/Retro GTO like the Challanger/Camaro/Mustangs would you buy it?
The only thing keeping me away from the new GTO right now is the bland import tuner styling.

If it was done as well as the Ford Mustang I would definetly give it a closer look. NO MORE HALF ASSED CARS!!!

Yes, I would because the GTO has always been my favorite car. I don't think one will ever be made that will garner universal approval, but until then, I'll continue enjoying the two bland, import-tuner-looking, seg-producing, smooth-riding, great-sounding Aussie GTOs I currently own. Unlike most, I buy what I like, and don't waste my time whining about whatever it is I DON'T like.

I would buy it right now as it sits if it was priced 10k cheaper and the local GM dealers weren't such jerks.

GM?
Never happen. When the "new" Camaro hits the streets, GM will have found a way to turd it up.

I almost bought a 2005 but I decided to pay off my 2001 WS6 TA instead. What makes me mad is they skipped 2007. I probably would have bought a 2007 to park next to my 1967. Oh well it's stuff like that why GM is going down the crapper! I mean when even the diehard GM guys aren't buying your cars, you're in real trouble.

I've seen the new Cadil.......errr, Camaro concept up close in person and I don't really get the appeal of it. The interior was kind of cool but I didn't care much for the exterior.
I'll admit that I don't really like the way that the body panels on the new GTO are shaped around the rear tires. I don't like that "bulge" (for lack of a better word). I like the rest of the car.
Ben, there are dealers across the nation selling the new GTO's for less than $25k. I think I even read on LS2GTO.com that there were dealers in Cali w/comparable pricing. How much cheaper do they need to be?
When I bought mine, there were dealers near me that did not want to deal at all. They would not even get near $30k for the car PLUS TTL. I had to shop around a LOT.

I think they are missing the boat with sytling. I don't think the car is horrible or bad looking. I just think it's bland, lakluster or plain.
I also think the concept of a 400HP car for 21K has done well. I think it would do better if they got in touch with the roots of the GTO styling.
Much like the Mustang Camaro's or Challangers, I think they would sell more and demand more money if they were to follow the Modern/Retro trend.
I know that I personally would spend 30-35K if it was a bad ass looking car like the 60'S GTO's.
Just My Opinion.

Maybe on the east coast or midwest, but out here none of them stocked them and weren't interested in it when it was new. I've had quite a bit of negative experiences with most of the dealers out here regarding their willingness just to sell cars. For $25k it is just the right price for me, but I wasn't going to play one of those "starts at $36k and factor in a $5k 'market adjustment' rates on top of that" games. Also, no test drives either.

You know, I would buy it with the current styling if I needed a new car. Have ridden in a few of the "new GTO" and they are nice cars. The Monaro is a well proven and respected platform. In any event, I like them a lot better than the new Mustangs after riding in a couple of those.
My beef is .... that Pontiac should not have used the GTO name on the car. Seems like a cheap attempt to boost sales IMO. And the sales numbers agree with me. When 1st released the new GTO did not sell well at all. Nobody who was into GTOs liked it. But once a few hit the streets, and the reviewers got to really drive the cars, they started selling pretty well.

It was a planned three year run from the get go('04, '05, '06).

In a word.... NO! A GTO will NEVER be a "real" GTO ever again IMO! You can't recreate a legend!

I understand what you are saying and I whole heartedly agree.
There won't be a replacement for that era or it's cars.
I'm just looking for that next legend.

Brand new 06 GTO's for 25k? I haven't been keeping up with it, but have there been BIG rebates on them? If not, there is no way they can sell them for that unless they are losing tons of money. Having retired as a Sales manager at a Pontiac store, I know about the pricing of these cars. There is only a $2000 to maybe 2500 market on a 36k car. So this leaves it at 33,500 invoice. The holdback, 3% of 36K is what, maybe 1100. Now we are down to 32,400. $7400 to get down to 25k. I never heard of a rebate of anywhere near this on a GM CAR. Even if GM had a 7400 rebate, after that the dealer is selling below his actual cost, not counting any interest he has paid on the invoice price. I just don't think it has happened on any 06's yet.
