The holdback, 3% of 36K is what, maybe 1100. Now we are down to 32,400. $7400 to get down to 25k. I never heard of a rebate of anywhere near this on a GM CAR. Even if GM had a 7400 rebate, after that the dealer is selling below his actual cost, not counting any interest he has paid on the invoice price. I just don't think it has happened on any 06's yet.

Oh jesus.....again the ignorance in this thread is amazing. The car isn't $36K....the rebates now are $2500.....and yes SOME dealers with LARGE inventories are trying to get the cars off the floorplans...but from what I have seen in Boston no less, is that dealers still are not budging off msrp.

I mentioned 21K in my post without clarifying that that is a low mileage used price. There are 4(04-05) GTO's on craigslist alone in my area that are selling for 22.9 to 20.9. It's not unheard of for the new one's to sell around here for mid to high 20's.

Jerry,
Mine stickered for almost $34k including a $695 dealer-add "protection package". I paid $29k "out the door" (including tax, tag and title) for it and I paid too much compared to what they are selling for up north.

Since I probably can't link to the actual threads here, just go over to LS2GTO.com and read in their "2006 Information" forum. There are many people at multiple dealers who are buying these cars (new '06's) for slightly under $25k PLUS Tax, tag and title.

My brother-in-law who is interested in one of these cars called one of those northern dealers listed and they offered it to him for $24,500. He would of course have to pay Alabama tax when he returned here which would be another $1200-1400.

I know that it's hard to believe but it's true. I was skeptical at first too.

Oh well, it doesn't matter to me, I still LOVE the car no matter what it's called.

I love the original GTO's and I'm sure I'll get flamed for this but......

I think what's really ironic about the whole issue over the car being named a "GTO" is the fact that the name "GTO" was stolen by GM from Ferrari. The original word "GTO" essentially belonged to a foreign car company in the first place.

I wonder if old school Ferrari owners had this same debate when Pontiac released their "GTO".

Nope. GM p'ed on us because we liked the original. They said that the new gto wasn't for us. So let them keep them all. Lesson #1 in marketing; Never Never crap on the very people you need to buy your product before it even hits the sales floor. GM crapped before the new gto hit the sales floor. Looks doesn't matter.

Default Would you buy the New GTO if they changed the styling?

No, I already bought one in '04 and it's awesome!

Oh, and in before the lock!

I would buy one if I had the disposable income to afford it and it not be a daily driver, but a garage queen M-F.

I liked the one on the Bohn Pontiac showroom floor at the last fall show they sponsored. It had some modifcations to it (from SLP?) and was purportedly making 455 HP. It had special badging on it declaring this, HO-455 or something like that.

This debate can go on forever, becouse it's only based on personal opinion. There are no facts to back up either side! The bottom line is everyone has an opinion, and we all need to respect that. If we all thought the same, this world would be a pretty boring place!

Looks will always be subjective....no doubt.

Performance is less subjective....a new car running 13.1@106 and weighs 4000lbs is pretty decent for any musclecar from any era.

I'd have no problem buying an '06 if I were in the market for a 2 door coupe. I have to have a truck for work and my wife want's/needs a wagon to drive around the kids. Even so, I'd still consider one if I could get a 'vert- since none is available I've been semi-seriously getting a (gasp) Mustang GT convertible.

You're right. It has been going on for at least three years already. In the beginning, I thought why is everyone making a big deal out of this? It's all just subjective opinions. Now that I own a new "GTO", I find myself jumping right into the debates with both feet.

I wanted a modern high hp 5 or 6 speed car with a backseat (that wasn't a F*rd). My choices were rather limited no matter what the name of it.

Can't we all just get along????

Yeah it's a dead horse, but a little more stylng and I'd go for it. Better do it quick though, because I'm ready for the new high-end model Challenger.
