Can you sell the quarters that are coming off the car?

Beautiful car and compelling story.

I just bought a '74 T/A (white) from USA and I'm finally about to get it certified for the roads in Canada.

Hopefully doesn't turn out as crazy as NZ - jinkies!

She is totally worth it though...you must get some crazy looks driving down that road lol

The sail panel areas are going to be used on the new quarters, so they probably wont be much use to anyone.

Been a while since I updated this thread.

Work is slowly progressing. Unfortunately the front spring pocket areas (below the rear passenger floors) along with the rear of the frame rails (where they meet the tailpanel) required a lot of work.

The doors have had the new skins fitted, but the bottom of the door frames also had rust that had to be addressed.

Outer wheelhouses, trunk extensions, quarters and tailpanel are in final mockup stage - should all be spotwelded on in the coming weeks;

Too bad you couldn't bribe the inspector , I don't think your car posed a hazard to anyone in any way.
But you knew it was going to be tough, and you are working it out with an extremely great attitude.
More power to you and best wishes !

Googled "what is good about NZ"

Gisborne is the first place in the world to see the SUNRISE.

It has the best air quality of any nation.

There are no nuclear power stations in New Zealand.

It is one of the last habitable countries in the world to become occupied by humans.

There are No Snakes. (really ?)

Only 5% of New Zealand’s population are human (the rest are animals).

Home to more species of Penguin than anywhere else on the planet.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister once appointed a national Wizard.

You can pay with Hobbits. (Try that one at the body shop)

Cheers! I retired when I moved here so I'm actually enjoying the periodic visit to the body shop to talk about the car and review the progress. I suspected the front leaf spring pockets might be weak, but I had no idea they were as bad as they were. Be nice to get the car back knowing there's no hidden areas of rust.

Big shout out to Ames too - I hadn't counted on needing a tailpanel so I did not include one in my original parts order. I was worried it might delay the progress but the good folks there had everything boxed, shipped and landed in NZ in a very short period of time.

Floors all blasted and sealed. Tank, rear end and exhaust going back in for the final time;

Question

Peter, with respect, could I make a suggestion that you take this opportunity to remove the door lock mechanism from the left hand door (and possibly the right hand door), soak them in thinners and get all that overspray off. The attaching screws too.

I'm sure they were not originally painted at the factory.

Apart from that, its looking amazing. Going to be a brilliant car when finished

Ian

Not sure you could call that 'overspray' as they were painted over fully when the first repaint was done back in 2004 (the glass was removed from the doors, but everything else was left in).

They will be removed when the car is painted this time around as everything is being painted seperately.

Yep - it's not the prettiest at the moment. They are telling me that it will be painted and ready to go by the end of April. Seems a bit optimistic, but what do I know?

Some photos of the quarter panels process.

This is utilizing the repro 75-81 full quarters combined with the sail panel section from the quarters that were on the car to make a 74 full quarter (which are not currently reproduced).

Old quarter - showing original sail panel and 'half' lower patch panel;

New 75-81 quarter with sail panel area removed;

Section cut from old sail panel area;

The two panels welded together;

The '74' quarters blasted and finished inside;

IMHO the quarters that were on the car ( GM?) look pretty solid, as does the whole car!

Not a lot of updates to report. One of the repair inspectors requirements was a 3D chassis measurement. That's taken a bit to organize but it is all done now and it's surprisingly good for a 50 year old car.

Boy those panels were scary, definitely a safety concern . Man I’d be giving the American one finger salute to people. This is total BS . Sorry but I can’t stand stupid stuff like this there was nothing about that car that wasn’t safe . Barely considered hacked maybe but not unsafe .
