body mount bushings
hello all
i'm working on a 67 bird, and the body bushings are shot. i have a spare set of OE rubber and hardware from a 69 bird project. New from NPD PN K3026 for bushings PN C-9023-50A for hardware hardware lists as for 1967-1981 bushing set is stated as only applicable for 1969. NPD sells a different set for 1967-68 any one know the differences? i was assuming i could use the 69 set on my 67 but not sure now. old ones are too trashed to be a good comparison to the new parts. thanks

I'm surprised they are different. Frame dimension specs are 67-69. No idea why the bushing would be different.

surprised me too. thought i would check since alot of 69 things are different
im not an expert but have done alot of work on first gen birds and was never aware of any differences in subframe or body that would make the mounts different i might start the project tonight and see if these will work. i do hate to remove stuff though and then wait for parts if these do not work.....

I believe the radiator core support bushings are the largest of the all "Hockey Pucks" and the remainders are all the mid and rear support frame bushings.

Sorry, I was wwwwwwrong on that. The rad uses the smaller and middle mount is the larger hockey puck and the back is same as front radiator bushing. I thought I had deleted my previous posting on this but looked today and here it is. Anyway, verified this on my 69 TA see pic. the way you show the mount package you have, they are installed from front to back from right to left of the package pc you show. I remember I had to shave a tad off the rubber so it would fit thru the hole in the radiator mount.

well i finally installed the bushings last night...only the four rear ones, have not got to the core support bushings yet.
the bushings fit fine and appeared to match the old ones. old rubber crumbled out and there is some rust enlarging the holes in the subframe. need to fix that eventually, but i am sure the new bushings provide better integrity than what i had. anyway, no idea why NPD lists '69 and '67/68 bushings with different part numbers, all fit well steve - i agree with your post on which bushing goes where thank you all

Ok, so I'm a little late to the party, but here is some information that may help. This info is from the 1968 and 1968 Camaro assembly manuals (p. 50 for 1968, p. 41 for 1969), but I believe that it is also correct for Firebird in this instance. 1969 F cars had a change to the lower rear subframe cushions compared to the 1967 and 1968 models. 67/68 use lower cushion p/n 3914802 Which is the same as the middle position lower cushion) and 69 uses 3962720 (different from the middle lower cushion). There are slight changes to the outer diameter, but the inner diameter is unchanged, so it fits the 67/68 upper cushion. I am not sure why there was a change, but the chassis engineers are always making changes model year to model year to either make things better, cheaper, common, keep up with vendor changes, etc.
Another note for the core support lower cushion is that the original p/n is 3893156, but was superseded by p/n 14008366. They differ slightly in appearance, but are functionally equivalent.

For clarification, here is a picture of the mounts/cushions for 67/68 from front to back going from left to right. Uppers are on top, lowers are on the bottom.
Also, here are the p/ns for reference as well. Core support upper: 3893159 Core support lower 389156/14008366 Bolt torque: 30 - 40 lb*ft Firewall (mid) upper: 3928380 Firewall (mid) lower 3914802 Bolt torque: 75 - 95 lb*ft Rear subframe upper: 3901361 Rear subframe lower (67/68): 3914802 Rear subframe lower (69): 3962720 Bolt torque: 75 - 95 lb*ft

thanks for the info notaTA...very helpful. i scratch my head every time i do this trying to figure out which goes where. i attached a pic showing how i set mine up, same as yours front to back is left to right. looks to match your pic.
btw i used my new(used) transmission jack to lift the body at the rocker while on the 2 post lift. worked very well thanks everyone
