69 Bird Gear Shift Bezel
The gear shift indicator bezel in my 69 is held in place by a large sheet metal screw through the top of the bezel into a corresponding hole in the front of the console. The rear of the bezel has no such screw or hole and is loose.
The part I’m describing is the metal piece that fits over the shifter arm and covers the large hole at top of console. What is the proper way at to attach the bezel to the console?

There should be two screws that attach to the shifter using plastic nuts, similar to license plate fasteners. I can take some pics if you need it.

That's not how those are attached by the factory.
Those certs are in clip receivers and the bezel literally pops into those clip receivers with riveted on clips, attached to the bezel. The repop ones are really crappy though. and it's not what I would call a great design. That'ss probably a reason your bezel is attached like that.

I've owned the car for 35 years, so I guess somebody else did that. I learned something new.

Mine has the top screw like in the pic Mike posted - very crude way to attach.

The original studs on the bottom of the bezel broke off easily and allowed the bezel to flop around.
There was a service update from Pontiac that instructed dealers to drill them out and put in screws.after stud failure.
