If my memory hasn't failed (which is highly possible), Chevy used a Carter WCFB four barrel.

Hello Dave, The 1957 Chevrolet 283 with powerglide transmission came with the Rochester 4GC carburetor. Early models were # 7008737 and later built models were # 7009846. John

Perhaps it may be only the dual quad 245 hp (auto trans) and 270 hp engines used the WCFB carbs.

I think you may be correct, I have an uncle with a 57 Vette w/dual quads and the WCFBs are on it.

My old Chilton manual shows both used in 57 Chevy applications.

Sorry for the error!

Definitely a q-jet don’t know the number. It was my first car, 283 power-pac, 220 hp.

My mistake, I always thought all Rochester’s were q-jets. Thank you, I’m a little smarter now.

Ridiculously heavy carbs. I have a friend that owns a 56 Belair, 57 Belair, and a 57 Cameo and I've rebuilt those carbs plus a spare for each. Doesn't hurt to paint the cast iron bottom or they become a rusty mess in short order.

Thanks again EV1,
Ok , I took the carb apart and rebuilt it for my buddy. The first thing that happened was the power piston fell out as soon as I lifted the air horn up. Second ,the boot on the pump was soft and deformed. other than that ,it was just real dirty inside.
Took his car out for a ride after putting it back on and it runs good now. There is a slight stumble just coming off idle ,but as soon as he gives it more gas ,it runs great. I am thinking ,maybe because I did look at the jets that were in the carb and cleaned them up. The primary jets are ,048's and the secondary jets are .068's . Could that be the problem. I think they are too big,and should be maybe around .060's in the secondary's.
What do you guys think?

Thanks for all the help, Dave
