Default wiring harnesses don't fit fuse block

In the pic, you will see the plug for my wiring harness (engine or headlight) at the bottom for my 64 Lemans.

The top of the pic is the engine compartment side of the fuse block, and it would appear that the plug should push into the upper portion of the fuse block.

HOWEVER,

the plastic divider (that I circled in red) does not allow the plug to push onto the back of the fuse block. (it contacts the center of the plug, red line)

Are these plugs different from year to year?
am I missing a 'spacer' that goes between the 2?

what am I doing wrong here, this should just 'plug in'

Thanks for your help

64 engine side plugs are white. Your plug is black. Both appear to be original from somewhere. Have you changed the black plug, wiring? "Bill"!

The black plug don't look right to me. This is a picture of my 64 wiring harness for engine. But looking at yours it appears the terminals are in backwards. But they cannot go in backwards so guessing wrong plug??? If you look at your plug the part of terminal that sticks out is not correct to match the fuse block plug. terminals have a lock tab and can only go in one way, so you can't turn them around.

64 Lemans, do you have a pic of your fuse block?

The wiring harnesses are from different cars, but I did not know the plugs, or fuse blocks were different from year to year.

Thanks for your replies

Don't have a pic of my 64 fuse block BUT i do have a 65 fuse box that I can get a pic of tomorrow. I will see if they are the same.
I do believe I have a new harness for the 64 that has been cut up but still has the firewall plug on it. Will see tomorrow.

Ummmmm...you can't just use a harness from a different year car. The harness has to be specific for your year and the options your car has.

Thanks for the input guys,

chrisp, could you please post a pic of the plug of the engine wiring harness, I would like to see if it has that 'divider' that is not allowing the 2 pieces to push together.

From what I have seen,(from the threads above) the fuse boxes look same from the firewall side, but I just can't find a wiring harness that will plug into it.

Lemans64, interested in looking at you 64 harness, thanks

Are they both V8 harnesses? I have heard that 6 cyl doesn't work with V8 but I don't know for sure.

Ok got it figured out, 65 tempest engine harness connector is black and has the divider as O/P has shown. 64 fuse block does not use this. have a new 64 harness for dash and an old 65 harness for dash, they are different. so appears you have a 65 engine harness and a 64 dash harness. 1st 3 pics are 64 and last 2 are 65
My engine harness that is pictures in previous post is an old one that is cut up bad .

Lemans64 thanks for those pics.

Now I need to figure out what I have, and what I need.

Thank you very much for your help.

I am just outside of Toronto
