Default Leaking Heater Core (A/C): By-Pass Question

64 GTO w/Air Conditioning...
In storage 26 years.. Believe the heater core is leaking. Understand this is a fairly involved repair. Would like to temporarily by-pass the Heater Core to stop the leaking until I can do the full repair.

Any suggestions as to the best method? Was thinking of just running a single hose from Intake Nipple to Water Pump. Cap the Heater Core input/out?

Which one is supply/return?

Thanks!

Yes, Just run the hose from the water pump outlet back to the intake nipple. water pump is the return.

Or, put a 5/8" and 3/4" ball or piece of round stock inside the two heater hoses and you're all set to go. No one would be able to tell the heater core is blocked off.

They also make caps that clamp on the inlet and outlet.

The method I gave you is by far the easiest solution-short term or long. It also does not alter the appearance of the engine compartment.

The flow to the heater core is shut off in some applications on 64 vehicles with a/c by using a water control valve. That means that the water pump does not need the return from the heater core. Water to the heater core comes from the water cross-over on the intake. I would make a couple of wooden plugs from dowels and put the hoses back on the heater core as Dick suggested until you can properly repair it.

Thanks for the advice!

Planning to detail the engine compartment in the near future. At that time, we'll probably remove RH Fender to properly change the Heater Core (and have access to remove/reinstall the fasteners behind Inner Fender).

I just did this on my 66 last week. Works like a charm. Good luck.
