Default Have there been any issues with the FlowKooler water pumps

It appears that my water pump has taken a dump. I remember reading many posts about how the rebuilt pumps cut down the impellers and there was too much clearance to get a good flow. I was thinking of getting a FlowKooler pump and be done with all the drama. Have there been any issues with the FlowKooler water pumps?

I used this pump on my 455. Its an aluminum casting. I did have to clearance the plate. My engine has never run over 180 with a cold case radiator, clutch fan and shroud in a 72 Lemans. I don't have A/C

That pump appears to be a copy of an older flow cooler pump i have. I would try it. great price as well. I clearanced the divider plate to .050 using a press, hammer and dolly.

Thanks for the replies. Since I have 1966 with 8 bolt water pump I found this: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/g.../1966#overview Do you see any reason why this won't work just as well as the 11 bolt that you have recommended?

Shoot, sorry I gave you a link to the wrong part. Forgot about the different timing covers.

I’m not sure if this is still true regarding the 8 bolt setup, but I’ve heard multiple guys on this forum say they had cooling issues with 11 bolt water pumps that had the stamped impeller. The 11 bolt GMB pump has the apparently desirable and correct cast impeller.

The flowkooler impeller functions similarly to the cast style. Unfortunately the flowkooler is twice the price of the GMB.

I suppose you could remove your current pump, if it’s a stamped impeller and worked fine, just grab the GMB

My problem is that the 8 bolt does not come in aluminum.

I went with the FlowKooler (4" short pump version) for my 69 400. When it arrived I massaged the divider plate & Impeller clearance to a tighter tolerance. Since getting that I've had no issues with cooling, running @ 175-190 with the factory A/C on. I have dual 11" SPAL fans in front of the radiator.

Whether or not pump body is aluminum shouldn’t be concerning you. There’s maybe a one pound difference between iron and aluminum, really who cares?

I sent my 1964 8-bolt pump out to have it rebuilt, partly because I wanted to retain the original one and because you’re getting a better quality pump than buying something new that’s made who knows where.

Many years ago probably 25 or more I bought an overpriced Flow Kooler pump. It had an aluminum body and a cast impeller. Not long after that I bought another almost new aluminum body pump for $5.00 at a salvage yard, i was shocked to see it was exactly the same as the Flow Kooler pump including the aluminum body cast in Japan. I’m sure things have changed over the years by now.

I put a rebuilt stock one on my 67 400 when I restored the car about 15 years ago. I worked for O'Reilly at the time and was able to check the pumps as they came in and got one with the cast impeller. It is still working fine(knock on wood) and has a lifetime warranty.
