Default GTO Exhaust Complete

I am finally getting the GTO back on the road and crossing things of the Goats bucket list. The exhaust was one of the last big items.

My criteria for the exhaust system: 3" 304 stainless steel, Kooks Race Series Bullet mufflers, tucked quarter tailpipes with turndowns.

Currently no system being made that fit this criteria. While there is a few stainless systems on the market, they are all designed for an offset muffler, and the Kooks is a straight through design. So we built a system utilizing a Pypes x-pipe and Stainless Works "grab bag" for all the various bends. This is the result after hours of mocking, fitting, cutting, and welding. Hope you guys enjoy.

T/A, that is one clean installation. And the Vedoro Green looks great. I gotta ask, do you have any exhaust drone with the X-pipe? At any certain RPM's? I have seen issues with that discussed on this website.
Thanks
Tony

Great job, that's a lot of work and patients.

My father runs a system with similar ideas on his 69 GTO but with straight through designed case style race mufflers. 3 1/2" off the headers into a Dr. Gas X that changes to 3". From there the oval case straight mufflers are turned at a 30 degree angle to compensate for a factory tailpipe fit. We used Torque Tech for the tailpipes because they also had factory looking turndowns at the bumper that tucked up into the quarters nicely.

It's hard to get that factory appearance while trying to gain performance. Almost looks like 2 identical cars.

Tony: there is a bit of drone around 2200 RPM but I was expecting it. I have previously run these same mufflers as a Kooks axle back setup on an 06 GTO and loved the sound, but knew there was some drone associated with it.

Formula: My original plan was to do something very similar to your dad, as I have heard great things about both those products. But having a friend that can tig weld, who was willing to help, swayed me towards stainless.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

There is going to be some drone with literally any high flow system. Any muffler company that denies it is lying! However, the x-pipe helps reduce some of the drone rather than increasing it like an H-pipe does. Also, straight through mufflers like the Kook's pictured, the Pypes M-80 etc all will exhibit a little more drone than most chambered mufflers. FM is the exception as they just seem to get louder and louder the faster you drive!

Some will vote for Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers and I will agree they have less drone but I don't consider them a full performance muffler. They are crimp bent instead of welded and do not have a straight flow path.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

I'll try and post a sound clip in the next couple of weeks. I am currently in the DFW area for work while the car is in Houston. So needless to say, I don't see her much.

There is some drone, but it's livable in my opinion. Given that the car isn't a daily, I was willing to compromise for sound.

I'll be in Houston next week. I'd be glad to give that TA some exercise!
