The resistor wire is used in "Run" position to save the points, even in a Chevy.

I think you are reffering to the "Start" wire which indeed, in some applications, also Pontiac, is connected to the "R" (Remote NOT Resistor) terminal on the starter solenoid.

Btw. Talking electric bugs here is a quiz about what happened to me tonight in my 69 Executive sedan. I was driving it after dark tonight from my storage garage to my home garage (getting cars where I want them pre winter lockdown) and on the way I noticed the right turn indicator on the dash wasn’t working. I listened carefully and I could sort of hear the flasher but couldn’t tell for sure if the front flasher was working.

I got home and in the driveway I put on the right flasher and saw the rear light was flashing but not the front and not the indicator on the dash. So I put the left flasher on, indicator worked as did the front light but not the rear. I then shut off the flasher and instead put on the 4 way and the exact same lights flashed (right rear, left front and left dash indicator) while the rest failed to light or flash. Last clue, headlights off or on made no difference and all other lights (park, tail, side marker, headlights etc work perfect).

I figured it out after a while. Some background, this is a low mile, untouched survivor that has never had any monkeying under the dash or any socket corrosion etc.

It is a 1969 Executive 4door sedan with AC and automatic etc.
Any guesses?

It was actually something stupid. The dash harness connector that clips on to the turn signal harness on the steering column was not properly clicked into place but looked like it was. One side was in just deep enough to make contact but the other end wasn’t quite making contact on a few wires.

I was glad to figure it out because I was moving the car to winter storage and while it wore a legitimately registered plate and valid insurance they might have been possibly for another car. So a traffic stop wouldn’t have been desirable.
