Congrats to the guy who bought it.

One thing I noticed before, looks like they bent the bracket on the dipstick tube to mount to the front AC bracket?
(even looks like the other AC bracket has the hole)

Default Cold air induction '73 TA

This whole cold air induction piece is wrong for my car...I need the complete '73 piece. Can anyone send me in the right direction??? It's for a 1973 SD445. Thank you. CLW

The '73 fresh air did come from the inside of the fender, Like yours has, SD got their air from the same space as most else did !
Note : Clip goes over the support plate as in last pic. You elbow looks correct but missing the tab,( clip) and the part it snaps into, which goes well into the fender cavity, should be black plastic IIRC.

and the 73-74 TA's, formula's, and normal firebird's, were different? since the brace from the support to the fender were thicker, the clip its self was thicker. very rare to find used any more.

not the best pictures but can see the difference, the blue car has the small clip and looks like the white has the bigger clip.

Thicker than what? all 73 had same core support brace to fenders. Could be a 74 was different manufacturer.. This part is same as 400 2bbl base bird , or a 350 for that matter

The clip was riveted on in '73-5 or so. Then went to the different style.

Thanks for that Formulabruce...the cold air induction systems all work the same and in many ways also look the same. The plastic elbow that my car currently has on it is, I believe for later year models where the metal tab attaches to the fender. The one I am looking for has a different style of mounting hole and tab cutouts to accommodate a riveted tab to attach to the '73 model only fender brace core support. (looks like the third picture you attached) Car works just fine with what I have, no one even notices it......but I do and it's just one of those little things that I would like to "fix"

on the ones I parted over the years, I think I found 3 different thicknesses of braces. TA's were always thick, but found formulas with thick(if had TA suspension) and medium thick (if base suspension), then base birds with real thin ones. it has been years since I got to work on any as have been overseas off and on since 2009. I know 1973's are 1 year only as are longer, and it might be 1975 where the different thicknesses started????

believe the elbow like he has started in 77 when they went to the small tube like brace.

What?? I have seen various degrees of rust. but to change the crash test braces by the performance and or suspension options?? There was and IS Only One set of 73 Braces... could be the '75 you remember...

This is certainly a very nice car. I do notice it has a steel front valance, a replacement exhaust system, and replacement belts. Shows you how rare an all-original survivor is!

The air cleaner duct elbow with correct hardware for a 1973 is very tough to find, but not impossible. I agree that there were two different designs for strut braces with different thicknesses. I'm not sure if this was a model year difference or a difference that occurred within model years. The first I bought was too thin to mount properly, but the second was perfect. In addition, the 1973 duct piece that mounts to the air cleaner is held in place with a hex head screw. The first picture below is the duct with the thinner brace attachment piece.

I saw that car at MCACN last year. It also has some weird chrome wheelwell trim that someone added.

There was a white 1973 SD-455 TA bought new that had headers and gears installed on Day 2, and the owner went drag (and street) racing. The car only had a couple hundred miles when it was parked for decades. It's basically a time capsule, but the owner did indeed do a few things to it back in the day. Items were reinstalled or corrected when these cars became high dollar investments decades later, and the car was sold to a collector.

Mike

Why don't we show this as the differences.

My early '74 has no casting number molded in. My mid-year has 489918 (hidden under the support). And the one I posted earlier I believe was from a '75 and carries 496173.

Not enough info Mike. So when was the thinner strut and/or duct retainer clip in play based on your information?
