But, you never answered the value question?

A 455 HO equipped Formula with all the T/A goodies sans plastic bolt on’s is worth just as much or more Imho. Bob’s is the pinnacle in the marketplace presently

This just in from Fred Simmonds - it looks like only 82 of the 276 (30%) 1972 455 HO Formulas had the M22 transmission.
This would be total manual for the 455 HO, since I don't think the M13 was used with the 455 HO like 1971?

And 109 Formulas with Ram Air in 1971.
So 212 455 HO Formulas didn't have the WU3 option, correct?

I would agree Bob's is the top 72 Formula HO. Hard to put a value on it, as that part remains to be seen.

But, a Adriatic Blue and White documented 72 4 speed TA exists and is still value leader.

Since, it recently was restored and sold. Not sure what it sold for?

But, Bob's being special paint Black on black custom interior is very special, rare and more rare (1 of 82) puts it in contention...

I agree Mike. Bob's black car is probably THE rarest and most valuable of the 72 HO Formulas that we know of so far, and the Adriatic T/A is the top dog of all 72 Trans Ams.

In my opinion, Bob's Formula would still worth more than a similarly equipped 72 Lucerne blue 4 speed Trans Am. (or Cameo white)

So am I understanding it correctly that the breakdown on the '72 455HO Formula's came directly from Fred Simmonds?

With respect to the M22 transmission numbers, yes.

It seems that the breakdown on the '71 455HO Formula's has been known for some time. Did Fred give any insight as to why the info on the '72's followed at a later date?

There is a quote from Fred in thread as to where he found these numbers. HTH.

You can believe them or not.

It could be as simple as no one had asked him about it. Doug and I were shopping with our wives and he texted Fred while we were waiting for the next outfit change. 10 or 15 minutes later Fred texted back with the info. It was a pretty cool addition to an already fun day.

In 1993 when I got my 72 Formula, I tried to find this breakdown back then. I was told then that it was not available by many people, including Jim Mattison. I believe he mentioned Fred's name in those conversations. From time to time since then, this subject would come up, with nothing new known. So, for me, who has been looking for this breakdown for 24 years, this information is new and very interesting. Thanks, Bob.

You’re welcome. Nothing says thank you quite as well as a bottle of Knob Creek bourbon. Hah.

That’s a great idea, but not necessary. More importantly, does that mean you’ll be back at the TA Nats next year?

I always try to make this show. I had a 20 year attendance record going from 1985 to 2005. Then I had to skip a few years due to family matters. I am planning to make it in 2018 with the green SD.

It may be time for me to finally go to that show. Maybe we can caravan this time since we are neighbors. I'll either bring the SD or Gramma's car (which is a lot more fun to do burnouts in).
