1969 Trans Am factory air dam
I was wondering if anybody knows if there is a difference between an original TransAm front lower air dam and a repro. I have what I believe is an original one and was wondering.

Yes it is being reproduced, here's a link:
http://www.classicindustries.com/fir...ts/eb9201.html I think you're confusing this with the metal air dam for 400 and A/C cars. This is in additiion to the metal air dam. It bolts to the metal air dam. Only on Trans Am. Frank. |

The reproduction air dam is an exact copy of the original - dimensionally. The graining may be a little different but it is a very good piece.
I don't know about the one from Classic above. Year One used to have the best. Tom

I had a repro from year one I sold a couple of years ago. It was thin plastic. Shiny and smooth on the back, pebbled finish on front. Maybe 0.060" thick. Flexible plastic.
I was under the impression this was an improvement over the original which was a rubbery plastic? Not sure! |

I'll measure mine today but it's definitely thicker than .060". It's rubbery as well.

If you are offering it for sale, I may have interest. Any damage ? any repairs ? etc...Thank You.

Hi Frank,
Based on your description, it would appear that yours is original. I will measure the thickness on my original as it is quite thick ie 0.1 inch. Will post later Steve |
