Default Brewster green metallic

Has anyone documented the actual color or formula of Brewster green? All of the manufacturers say no metallic but 1 other person told me they thought that it had a very little bit of metallic in the paint. I talked to a couple other restorers and they said no metallic but I got the feeling they never really looked that close at it. Reason I ask is, I am restoring Dennis Jensens old SD and it has some original paint on it and in every spot, under trunk lid, cowl, front of door jambs and fender extractors has original paint with metallic in it. Any thoughts before I proceed? Its only visible with a high power light like an led or the 3M sun light that I have, of course there is no sun shine outside or will be anytime soon.

Default Brewster Green

I own a 73" Brewster Green SD car. It was restored back in 98' and when we pulled the spoilers and fenders off the original factory applied paint was there. Definitely no metalic in the original Brewster Green formula. In addition to the information above, I have an original 73' Dealer Book with all the available interiors and pretty large color chips, about 3" X 5" for each color. No metalic there either.

Throw me your email address for direct contact. Cheers

Well I still wonder if anyone has looked at this color with a sunlight? I have checked with everyone I can think of and they all say the same thing that it has no metallic including the original lacquer mix. HOWEVER, this car has metallic in the original paint! May just be a case of they didn't clean the equipment out good enough when they painted it which is possible and what were leaning towards so I think were going to just paint it without it.

I'm biting my tongue on this and expect backlash, but I agree with you

Find an old paint store with a set of formula cards from the 60s and 70s. Every color had a card that gave the formula to mix a pint, quart, or gallon. If it had metallic in it the card will tell how much to add and what type. You have to find the original cards not the updated modern formulas.

Isn't the man who developed the color still alive? He would be a good resource. Or just a British racing green looks good....

Jmo. It's very hard to get basecoat clearcoat to look anything like the cars did originally. My last few cars that I've had painted have been done in lacquer.

It don't work that way.

They didn't add the 'metallic' to the paint at the factory, it was already mixed.
If it had metallic from some other color, it would have that other color in the paint also.

I would think the car was repainted before in the early years.
Was Jensen the original owner?

I'm with Chuck, on this one but I know that isn't happening. I would have no problem painting a car with lacquer that is always in a controlled temperature setting. PPG is still available in lacquer.

Now with that being said I have seen some of Darrell's work with B/C and it is simply outstanding.

Dennis was not the original owner however Im sure he'll pipe in to enlightened us.
My automatic car (13k mile) had one repaint however the jams were never touched aka original. There was NO metallic in my Norwood 73 June produced car. Believe me it was reviewed by a couple major paint and body guys who reproduced it for some detailing. Their credibility and years in the industry combined is over 70 plus experience in the business.
Just my 2 cents

just my cents on the deal, I couldn't begin to tell you how many Brewster cars I have owned over the years and I looked at one of mine today that is an untouched garaged its whole life 43k on it that I bought from the original owner back in the early 80's and if it or any of the others has any metallic my eyes have never picked it up.

Boss - I think you have metal flake confused with flaking metal! Totally different!
