Nice car but suspicious VIN

Nice car looks original but the rivets are suspect Since they aren’t rosettes |

VIN
It almost looks like the rosette portion of the rivets are curved inward and are pointing towards the VIN plate. It doesn’t look disturbed in any way. A little different photo would confirm if that’s the explanation??

...but - I agree here. That VIN plate looks like it has been there a long time. My bet is all is OK, but I'd be interested to know how the round rivets got there. K

This ‘67 GTO is without a doubt a legitimate Survivor IMHO.
Great options on this car and still wears it’s patina factory lacquer check paint and dual pinstripes. As far as the VIN tag rivets, there have been examples of the round rivets (shown on this ‘67) being used before. That tag has not been tampered with. Let’s not forget, round rivets were used on the 1965 models at certain factory’s.

Rivets
I contacted the dealer and had someone send a video of the VIN tag from every angle. Here's a view that appears to show a rosette shape on the edge of the rivet. Pretty hard to tell. Looks unmolested but different for sure.

VIN tag
Here's another example from the same plant and close in sequence. Looks very similar. The "Rosette" parts point towards the tag.

Now that looks correct. I personally would not do a thing to the car but drive it.

Perhaps, but I do not appreciate that when asked for a photo of the VIN tag specifically for the purposes of examination, the seller sent along yet another blurry photo. So the photo in the listing is blurry, the photo provided upon request is blurry, and the rivets on the data plate also conveniently have some sort of material covering them. Why is it so difficult for people to take a photo that is in focus and without glare?
I agree this car is probably legit, but those tags do raise an eyebrow.

This photo of the above mentioned ‘67 Data Plate is clear to me. PS, cool to see the R after the 223 representing the recliner seat.

Yes, the data plate is clear, but the both photos provided of the VIN tag are blurry and that's what was referring to with regard to photo quality. I don't think there is any funny business with this car, and I'm sure it's the real deal. I figured there must have been an explanation of the material on the rivets of the data plate. Thanks for the info.

Looked to me that the rivets are rosette in the ebay photo, very tough to see the "corners" but they looked typical of other photos of rosette rivets IMO. They all look circular at the center but there is just enough "shadow" of the outer edges to prove the corners are there. I was planning to contact the Seller to confirm until DANTIP posted that he had already done so and the rosette corners are very clear in the additional pic, again IMO.
Chris, not sure I agree that round rivets could have been original on a '67. Yes, on '65s, the rosettes entered into production at the various Final Plants after early builds got round head rivets but after that, rosette heads were used and if IIRC, the rosette head rivets were required by Fed law, all part of the attempt to stem rampant auto theft, so very unlikely any Plant substituted round rivets in production, JMO. But from the jump. the rivets on this one looked to be rosette to me. I do agree about the putty, commonly seen on Data Plates. I don't disagree with ZeGermanHam, always disappointing when you get blurry pix when details matter. In my non-automotive career, I would receive pix from people wanting me to "see" things that they wanted me to explain what was going on. The photography was often laughable. I'm terrible with a camera but some of these people had no clue. I couldn't tell if their pix were ultrasound pix of their unborn baby or perhaps pix of the surface of the moon taken through a pair of binoculars. But at least the pix provided by the GTO seller were clear enough so that we could tell it was a GTO. And IMO, the VIN pix were clear enough to indicate rosette rivets were present. And even if you doubted that, you could ultimately see the rivets live and in person and leave no doubt. I'd be willing to bet this guy who passed in 2019 was the original owner of this '67. It would have been oh so cool to own this car and get to talk to Mr. Henderson about it. https://www.thedailyjournal.com/obituaries/vdj034992 |

Nice car with some nice options. That dealer cannot be trusted when it comes to "dealer installed" accessories though.
