Sales code was 421. While RPO A90 doesn't show up on some options lists, Sales could and did order it. Yes, there were dealer install kits, but option was cheaper when built.
There were different dealer kits. The Bonneville kit, for instance, had a huge release button that didn't fit in the
Firebird glove box. This kit was listed for many cars on the box. F body kits were not that common. I had the install down and could easily make book on installs on 2 door cars.
I put a relay behind my glovebox and hooked that to my pdl / security system and open it with a key fob, OR the glove box switch.
These were designed to keep the trunk off limits to Valet drivers and still keep the 1 key for door/ign.

Was also 554 and 421 . I am unsure why it changed through the years.
This option was installed early on in a build along with rear speaker wire/s.
Pontiac and GM in General wanted to give dealers something to make money on, so Kits were made, but so generic and not in X body cars.
We ordered switches and releases and made our own on new cars a few times.
I saw a new Firebird , ordered with it and it didnt show up. Was on the build sheet and manifest.
Probably pricing had a lot to do with changes in the numbers for sales codes.
IMHO

I bought a heavily optioned 71 TA from original owner about 35 years ago......and it had one (factory installed)

Push button in glove box was green IIRC......not yellow like the later 70's..
