Default Firewall hole

Does anyone know that the largish hole near the trans tunnel (yellow arrow) is for on my '66 w/AC? When looking at the photos I took of my car during disassembly, the only thing passing through this hole was an oil hose for an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, which of course was not original to the car. There wasn't even a rubber grommet of any type installed - just an open hole. Any ideas what it was originally used for?

The hole with the green arrow is for passing accessory wires through, although on my car it originally had a solid plug without any holes or wires passing through.

Don't remember where my drain hose exited but could it be for the condensation drain hose for the AC evaporator?

Really? Are you positive it's not hiding down there on yours?

My 67 has the green arrow but not the yellow. I am thinking someone drilled the yellow for the oil pressure line.

Here's a picture of my 67 during tear down. No hole where yours is. I also think it was drilled for the oil line.

Well dang, that answers that. Whoever did it could've gotten away with a hole 1/5 the size for the intended purpose. At least they cut the hole cleanly enough that I couldn't tell it wasn't from the factory.

Default 66 W/AC

Here are 2 more '66s with AC and no hole in that location.

My car was not born with AC, but that location is precisely where the previous owner chose to mount the drain for a first gen Vintage Air install and it appears to work with the Vintage Air version I am (painfully) installing.

Took a quick look at some of the repo firewall panels offered (by our host and others), they seem to have a hole in a similar location FWIW.

This is actually pretty useful info for me. I am getting ready to install a Vintage Air SureFit system in my car as well, but I haven't taken it out of the boxes yet to sort out details like where the drain hose is located. If the location of the non-original hole in my firewall is in a decent location for a Vintage Air drain hose, perhaps that's how I will use it. I was planning to run wires through there for auxiliary gauges like the previous owner did, but I can use the normal pass-through close to the wiring bulkhead for that purpose if needed.
