Default Headers

I don't really want to do headers, but with the lack of availability of 2.5" RA manifolds, I'm considering it as an option. The only other choice will be to use my stock manifolds until the 2.5" units are available.

The question is which headers will fit best with the least amount of modifications? The car is a 70 TA 4spd, stock clutch linkage. Reverse lockout already gone.

Log manifolds, definitely no headers.

You’ll be glad you waited for the HO manifolds.

I had a set of old Hedman long tubes on mine. The driver side cleared the z-bar assembly no problem, but the passenger side was a nightmare with the oil filter.

I had a set of Hookers that cleared the filter better.

I'd go with Doug's headers. Only one disappointed customer so far and that was a gentleman with a 68 GS.

You'll be glad you have headers when you install the Butler IA2 engine.

No doubt worth seriously considering.

As long as both engines have the same type of exhaust port, round or D-port.

Doug’s headers have superior ground clearance along with a nice fit in most cases.

I have hedman 28150 headers. I have a 1970 400 dport, 4 speed car. Clutch linkage ect works fine. Has great ground clearance. New they were $300 i think. I had em ceramic coated and they have lasted well with no issues. I believe they sell a version already coated.

Waiting for HO manifolds here. I have some type of hooker super comps. Starter clearance blows! The dougs fit perfect on my 69 and still look awesome. I bought them 15 years ago and the car has always been garage kept. I did hear the quality went down 10 years ago. A friend of mine bought a set in 2012 or so and they look like crap but was under cover for few years before garaging.

Long ago I had Hooker headers on my 72. I had to remove the oil filter mount to change the oil filter. They bottomed out enough times that they were ruined and I went back to the HO manifolds. There was a rush at 3000 rpm with the headers that was gone when I went back to the manifolds but I didn't miss them or the noise. Replaced the header gaskets many times.

I've decided no on headers. I'm just gonna use the factory RA manifolds until I can get some 2.5" manifolds.

And who knows. If my seat-of-the-pants dyno says I'm good maybe I won't change them.

Your back drive linkage, and your reverse lights will thank you.

True, but I am putting in a TKX as well... Still won't have reverse lockout, but I'll have lights.
