Default 1" Intake Spacer Dyno Results, 461, EFI, Torker 2 & High Ports

Just spent a ton of money on a new engine, mods and tuning so here's some data since I'm not a track guy, no secrets here. Hahaha

Combo is in my signature, dyno pulls about 2 weeks apart (no miles on the car since last pull).
Mustang Dyno (loaded)
Auto TH400 with new PTC 10"
Calculations are around 20% loss on the conservative side.

Engine = 461, 32 degrees, 12.8 AF/R, E55

No spacer................................... = 442whp/424wtq

1" aluminum Jegs spacer = 468whp/446wtq

https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/15451/10002/-1

Gain = 26whp and 22wtq
With the 20% loss that's 31hp and 26tq at the engine.
This seems like a lot for a 1" spacer.
I like how you see it early on in the graph and stays up power the whole way.

Others mentioned gaining 2mph and .2 at the track, that seems at least what my combo would gain if not 3mph and .3.

Conclusion, the Torker 2, even ported, is restricting the high port heads. Wish I would've gone Super Victor port matched at the start as I'd probably see another 20+hp.

If curious, 32 timing vs 35 degrees only gained 4whp, that's really surprising IMO. The cars not really responding to timing like I've heard others say.

So for $100 at Jegs, totally worth it on this combo.

It's not even so much about the ported Torker restricting air flow it's also about the port area neckng down in size from the head flange into the Intake runner.

In the least to maintain a nice wide smooothly rising power band the the whole lenght of the Intake tract from let's say the push rod area up to the meeting point of the plenum and a runner should be the same size overall, and ideally this runner area should expand at a minimum 1% per inch of lenght.

Note that curves in runners act like a reduction in port area.

Yes the big turns in the runners are fairly narrow and it takes a lot of grinding to keep the head port size up into the intake.

That's awesome for so little money. I'm not overly surprised, I've always said, if you have the hood clearance, spacers are worth playing with on any intake manifold. Gains can be a little, or sometimes a lot.

Dad's engine gained 20 or 22 hp, and that was on a big Victor intake after Tony had extensively ported it. I expected maybe 10 on that intake after all the work.

Increasing the plenum volume by moving the carb further away from the intake floor always seems to help things.

Mine have been similar….timing yielded surprisingly little gains between 28-36 degree’s……that was with aluminum d ports

Nice gain.
But, its now 100$ for a plain open 4150 spacer ?

The scary part is after spending what I have, to gain 31hp for $100 piece of square aluminum, dyno pull time and the shop to swap on the dyno was the deal of a century. LOL

The real kicker, moving from the 4" air cleaner to the 3" had lost some initial power vs the first dyno session on the same combo. I'm thinking of boxing in the sides of the air cleaner like this video shows added power. I'd like to add the velocity stack but there's no room.

The aluminum stuff is more expensive. You can still find 1" open spacers out of phenolic for $20-$30 and they'll do the same thing while at the same time transferring less heat to the carb too.

Are the cylinder heads as cast?

Oh damn, that Holley one is way cheaper and looks like it came with the longer bolts.

As cast High Port Heads
I figured with my combo 600hp was tops for what I wanted on a Convertible. I'm close but its clear now, Super Victor EFI ported was what I would've gone back in time to do to get a closer potential from the as cast heads. I spent hundreds on just getting the T2 to fit (thread on this) but at least this simple mod really woke up the car.

thanks for this info. has anyone tried adding 1 inch spacers on a tripower? I've got good heads and a ported factory intake, wondering if spacers might give me a little bump.
