Guys ive heard of this car being around & yesterday i finally found it.
NOT FOR SALE OF course but what a car. looked to be semi survivor. QUESTION for you T/A freaks..... the ram air IV block had a code of WH i questioned this & thought it should be WW like a GTO but GTOs are the only thing i know. it was a 4 spdcar & sounded a bit radical for a factory car He also had a copy of build sheet WOULDNT there be a code for trans am???? Like a judge???? didnt see it on the sheet just firebird. Just curious... IVE heard good & bad about the owner... I dont know him well enough to judge him at all he's always been cool with me. LET ME KNOW EDUCATION IS KEY! |

Trans Am was an option (like The Judge) and should be listed on PHS. There is a PHS shown on one listed on Ebay right now.

WH is the correct code - try finding one of those!
Was it the car in Derby you saw?

![]() I don't know how accurate this is but from what I've been told the RA IV cars had a surprisingly good survival rate (especially the autos). The estimate was that upwards of 25-35 have survived. Another guesstimate was that 10-12 still retain their original blocks. It's hard to get any "concrete" numbers since most of the collectors that own them are pretty secretive about their cars. I've been planning on creating a RA IV TA registry (keep the owners anonymous) to try and get some real survival rate #'s on these cars but haven't got around to it yet.

I think the RAIV should also be listed as an option on the PHS. I think I'm correct in saying the RAIII was the "standard" T/A engine (again, like the Judge).
Boss: WH is the correct code - try finding one of those! Considering the Firebird Red Book says only 46 T/A's came from the factory with RAIV & 4-spd., you are dead on. How about the 9 RAIV automatics? From what I read, all 8 convertibles came with the RAIII, 4 auto, 4 stick. Does anyone know if this is correct, or were there any RAIV covertibles? Dave |

No RA IV verts, all were III, and you are correct on the breakdown of auto/4spd.....All 8 vin's are known and 7 of the 8 have been accounted for.
Scott, Trans-AM (code 322) should have been on the PHS. If it's not, that would come as a surprise!

8 convertible T/A's total. 4 were equipped with auto trans and 4 with manual trans. All 8 were Ram Air III cars. There were no Ram Air IV convertibles built.
What a shame. Imagine what that car might be worth today if it had in fact been built! $$$$ Doug |

I know the car you looked at, It's real. It was at the Prospect car show two years ago. Their is another one around that I owned back in the late 70's early 80's. I purchased the car in Naugatuck from the original owner in 1976. The original Ram Air IV was long gone when I had it. I sold in around 1983 with a 68 H.O. 400 in it. I ran into the current owner at Stafford Springs swap meet a few years ago and he was selling the car. Guess what he claimed he had the original engine.

The car was set-up to drag and had the 1/4's cut up for slicks and the interior was gutted... ![]() I just wonder if the car survived, I believe the car was bought at a dealership in Buffalo, NY. Mike |

I dont know him well enough to judge him at all he's always been cool with me. I have known the owner for twenty years, he is a straight shooter. The car is all documented and except for the repaint is all original and #s matching, and as you noted, NOT FOR SALE. Gene |

I bought the car that came out of Buffalo. As far as Arts goes nobody should be questioning his credibility and if sweet judge knew how to read he wouldn't be questioning his car or motor. |
