Leaking hydraulic throwout bearing feed line.
Well I went to put fluid in the clutch master reservoir and all was good. When I went to press the clutch pedal I noticed a leak under the car. I was not able to see where it came from but I noticed the clutch itself was not wet so I figured it wasnt the internal seal. I got my wife to press the clutch pedal while I looked and apparently the machinist who set my clutch up did not tighten the feed line tight enough because it is leaking from the connection. How in the hell am I supposed to tighten that? I can get to it pretty good because its a Quickstop bellhousing and the hole is huge but any advice would be great. It is a hydramax throwout from American Powertrain.

There will be an English size wrench that will fit a 3AN fitting. Not sure what size it is off hand, probably 7/16" I would get a small set of flare nut crows feet. They will fit the nut the best. They don't need to be very tight because the flare is where the seal is made. Should be able to get in there pretty easy.

In retrospect I feel I didn’t get this line tight enough. My machinist left it out and I had to start it by hand and then I ran a flex head ratchet bent at its extreme travel down the line and tightened it as best I could feeling it was tight enough. I ordered some crow foot flare nut last night and will tighten it up that way. Tech support says that ideally it should have thread tape on it but I can’t get my hand in there to do that so it’s not gonna happen. Is the paste style thread sealer safe?

You have some wrong information and confusing here. NEVER use Teflon tape on an AN or any flare connection! It only gets in the way of the flare and causes a leak. The fitting in the actuator may have pipe threads and then could use the recommended sealant for the fluid. But that would be a loose fitting in the Hydraulic actuator not the supply line.

The opening for the flare nut wrench is made to clear a metal line. It may not be wide enough to go over a hose. Wont know till you get them, but might should have ordered the regular open end style. Clay |
