Default Cruise control

Anyone know what was the first year for cruise control in a firebird? Wondering if it was ever available for the 70-73. Thanks, Andy

RPO K30 >>> Oddly enough, this disappeared after 1970, till the 77 model year.
Only available on automatics, and 2 speedo cables, and a lot to mess with really on early cars.
I installed a factory one at the dealer on a '73 and we had to piece together the parts.
Modern conversions have a magnet to read driveshaft speed, which really simplifies the operation.

I'm installing a Rostra unit on my 68 restoration.
Rather than magnets, you can order a speed generator which is coupled between the transmission and the speedometer cable.
Had one on my 70 El Camino that worked flawlessly

1976 V-8 Firebirds had cruise option too. My 50th Y82 had this option, K30, at $73.00 then.
I've been told factory dealer installed kits for Lemans (A body) will work fine on Firebirds, if you want to imitate a factory original look.

I use the the system off an 71-72 big car (Its a bolt in). I use the factory stalk like a 76,77,78. Had it with my Muncie then a Kiesler SS 700 and now a TKX. It works flawlessly.

GM parts sold accessory cruise kits aimed at dealers for the purpose of adding cruise to a car that was ordered without. They contained all the OE parts that were on a factory build. They offered a 77-79 400 Firebird kit and a friend of mine installed it on his 73 Formula 400. Looked like it was made that way.
