Default Best gasket sealant for antifreeze - not when racing?

Hey Everybody,

Tired of the leaks!

What kind of Gasket sealant to use with Antifreeze and/or Water Wetter for the crossover gaskets at the heads and the water pump - timing cover?

I'm getting a new crossover and D79 Alcohol gaskets - they are harder and smoother than regular gaskets.

Thanks, Craig

I've always use a thin coat of the right stuff. No leaks. A bitch to remove after though. You can put a bit on both sides of the rubber donut for the bypass.

ive always just used the felpro gaskets with the blue silicone strip around the intake & coolant ports. on the coolant ports if there is any pitting or even if not i use a light coat of permatex ultra black or grey & have never had any coolant leaks. i use a light coat of permatex on the little rubber gasket too with leak free results. easy to remove & clean up too even after 5-10 years if use.

i've had no problems with RTV/Permatex blue (or grey/black)
as with any gasket surface, just make sure as clean as possible
maybe use some isopropyl alcohol or some other cleaning/wipe agent to make sure as clean as possible
when i had the timing cover leak, the culprit for me was putting the intake manifold on first, caused the timing cover in the upper left front area to not seal up properly
boy i chased an external leak for a little while on that...... drove me nutz.. JB told me cover first, then draw the intake to the cover.... once i did that, no issue
of course this was when i was first setting the engine up, sometimes excitement makes you overlook simple things

Has anything been milled, intake or heads, maybe the angle is off on the crossover part if separated?

Hey Guys - the winner is Ultra Black on ".125 Kauffman D79 gaskets -
(I wanted the height to clear the valley cover as heads and block milled a few times over the years) the timing gear cover/ water pump would not align with the crossover hole and gasket - O-ring - bolt deal - so got lucky with the Ulra Black working.

Thanks Everybody and see you at the track!
