Hello Steven and welcome to GTO ownership.
First of all, my deepest sympathies on the passing of your Mother. I talked to Charles a couple of weeks ago and he told me of her passing and of his passing the GTO down to you.
Good decision Charles!

Just so everyone knows, I had mused over that exact outcome many, many times.

But, would not dare to let myself even think about it out loud.

I simple asked if Steven would drive it down there, have fun with it and find someone with a couple of wheelbarrows of cash, then I could drive over with the title.

When he called before he came over to get it and said he and his wife had decided NOT to let it go, I was flabbergasted, took all of .5 second to say YES!

This kid is even more patient and detail oriented that I am, if anyone can believe that.

Some stories do have happy endings.

So glad that it will stay in the family. I'm sure that Old Goat would have many regrets if it wasn't around. Yesterday I found out that I was probably going to lose more of my "go pedal" foot and told my wife that I 'd probably have to get rid of a couple cars. She said "I can drive them. Anyhow the grand kids would miss them".

Chris, his family is more than great. If I could pick a brother out of a hat I only wish it could be that Old Goat Broussard. Super people and a super family.

Dad & I were supposed to take the GTO on Hot Rod Power Tour this year. He was diagnosed with Cancer shortly after I purchased the registrations in January. We were still a go right up to about a week or so before we needed to leave. Dad has been getting weaker by the day, but he refused to let me cancel my plans because of him. So I did the next best thing... I took the GTO from my house in Rayne, LA to Memphis, TN, then to Nashville, TN, then to Hoover, AL, then to Pensacola, FL, then to Atlanta, GA, and finally back to St. Francisville, LA. I had Dad following the GTO & I the whole way on Glympse, and gave all of my friends his cell # so that if they got a good rolling shot it could be sent to him immediately. After we got our long hauler plaques, I had all of my friends autograph his plaque and brought it to him. He couldn't have been happier to see that old car pull up and park in his front yard so that he could see it from the front porch.

The car itself did exceptionally well on the trip. Ran a little hot when waiting in 1 or 2 hour lines to get into a couple of the venues, but that is expected when you're idling in 100 degree weather on asphalt with the car in front of you blowing their exhaust into your radiator. My buddies were talking about the mileage that they were getting with their BBC's, LS's, etc., when they asked me what I was getting I told them that it was pretty good, I was getting exactly, "I couldn't care less MPG!"

I installed a new Gardner Exhaust system and replaced the Polyurethane bushings with rubber ones from Moog that don't squeak over the weekend, just in time to take Dad on a cruise to False River on Independence Day! I'd say that he enjoyed the ride.

BTW, the Gardner exhaust is well worth the money.

Man, did I ever!!!

The first time time it cranked with the Gardner exhaust with resonators, it brought me back to the day I first cranked it!

When we were at any cruising speed, you could talk very easily, but put the GO pedal down and it let you know, There's a "Tiger" under the hood.

Yes George, they will be coming shortly.

Steven will be doing that for me. He took them, he deserves the credit.
Called Eric Gardner today to thank him for such a SUPERB and high quality product "Made in the USA".
When I first heard them, I was transported back to the day I bought it new instantaneously!

Yep, I loaded her up while doing the frame off restoration.

Charles, so glad to see that you are still riding in your GTO. Steven is sure taking good care of it, and you! I need to stop by and hear the car, and I also need to do the poly to rubber swap. I thought I was so smart installing those poly bushings 10 years ago. It's squeaked ever since!

Dave, the rear control arms going back to rubber removed 98% of the squeaking.

I'll bet! I "fondly" remember when I replaced the original bushings. It was not that much fun, and I'm a lot older now. At least I know to stay away from poly bushings and SS brake lines now.

Unfortunately, I have to inform you guys of my father's passing. He passed away last Tuesday on July 19th, in his own home, surrounded by family, and most importantly, on his OWN terms. I have spoken to a few of you after Dad passed, but I meant to get time to post this for everyone earlier, I'm sorry. Life has gotten extremely full after his passing. My 16 year old dog, Ratchet passed away on Saturday of last week. We got hit with a double whammy, and I am just now coming out of my fog. Rest assured, Dad's GTO will be well taken care of and handed down to future generations of Dad's family after I can no longer take care of it. I'm really glad that I was able to spend time with Dad working on the GTO and taking him for what would be his last ride on Independence Day. Those are memories that I will never forget.

I have also attached a picture of Ratchet's last ride in the GTO (Dad's pic is further up on this page), as I miss both of them so much. I will be taking care of Dad's dog, Miss Lucy. My wife says that we are taking care of Dad's dog and he is taking care of ours now. It makes me feel better, but Man, does it hurt.

"My wife says that we are taking care of Dad's dog and he is taking care of ours now"

That's a great way to think about it.
So sorry for your loss. Thinking back on it l believe that l first became aware of Charles' GTO story through you. A thread on another forum about your Blazer?
Rest in Peace Charles. He's with his beloved Miss Millie now.

Yeah, I can't remember exactly what the connection was between that thread and Charles' GTO but there was definitely a connection and that's how I first saw Charles's story.
