Speedometer cable routing
As the speedometer cable comes from the transmission and through the firewall below the steering column what route does it take from there and are there any clips used?

Goes across the top of the steering column and into the back of the speedometer.
67 had a plastic strap, like the one used to hold the washer hoses, holding it on top. Charles |

Does it go along the drivers side of column or the passenger side?

It comes up on the RH side and has to cross over to the LH side.
It will ONLY go one way. |

Thanks Charles, that's the info I was looking for. The sun's been shining a lot lately and it's 35 degrees. It's almost spring and getting antsy to get the car on the road again.

Rather than creating a new thread, I'll just piggyback on this thread with a related question. Once the speedo cable exits the firewall into the engine bay, is it fastened/secured anywhere else before connecting to the transmission?

Yes there is a retainer that holds it up to the floor.
This retained is held with bolt bolt to the floor.

Thanks again, Jeff. Those photos are helpful and I should be able to fab something up that will work. A previous owner of my car had routed the speedo cable through the hole in the trans tunnel where the shifter cable goes, and apparently tossed the retaining bracket in the process. I'm putting it back to stock.
