The prefix on the Invoice ID is PPB (262655)
P = Dealer Order - or - Customer Ordered through dealer.
P = Pontiac Plant
B = Approved Private Bank Line of Credit (how the dealer paid PMD for car)

Doubtful that very many WW5's were dealer ordered for inventory on their sales lot.
Most likely a very very large percentage were hand picked special orders placed by customers. The WW5 option instantly made them very expensive cars for their sales class.

If you find your build sheet , it can usually tell if it was a customer special order.
I only have 3 WW5 B-sheets , all 3 say XXX CUSTOMER ORDER .
Would easily bet yours was a hand picked customer ordered car.

The window of time for others that may possibly be priced like yours is only about 2.5 weeks. And that could shorten as we get more examples.
Right now it looks like a window from 11/24 - 12/11

Any Lemans Hdtp or GTO Hdtp in that time span would provide example.
I don't have any others on hand in that time span.

Would be glad to see any other WW5 Invoices you have.
Send me a PM.
Thanks !

Hey Mike, any chance you could tell what the Body Build Date is - next to the left rivet on the trim tag ?

And the body number next to that ?
Looks like it might something like maybe ... 012669

Thanks if you can help on that.
Might come in handy somewhere down the line since yours is the earliest so far.

Went through the documents that Lloyd had and we found 1 more WW5 that was not previously listed here.

All we have on it is the Buildsheet with the VIN scribbled out.
And its a little blurry'ish in the upper portion.

If anyone has more info on the car it would be good to know more about it.
The file is tagged with a name = Steve R.

I received those "Steve R." tagged docs so long ago that I have no recollection of who Steve R. is . . . it's he!! to get old . . .

I thought that Steve R. was a PY'er, but now I'm not so sure.

Sure wish we had docs for 100+ WW5 cars instead of 24.

Hey Pat - we've never found an accurate count of the M40 vs. M22 WW5 cars, have we?

That's a good question, Pat. Diego - what say you?

My best guess is pretty close to a 60% M40 / 40% M22 split. Mostly just a hunch.

No stripes or wings = low survivability.

Special cars but nothing telling the average Joe or even the low level enthusiast that there's anything special about them.

OK - I just referenced Fred Simmonds 1972 455 A-body paper, and on the 455HO is was nearly a dead heat for M22 / M40 usage.

Out of the total of 747 1972 455HO A-body cars, 365 were M22 cars and 382 were M40 cars.

I suspect that split would translate to the WW5 cars as well.

48.8% of 290 = 142 M22-equipped WW5 cars.
51.2% of 290 = 148 M40-equipped WW5 cars.

Who knows . . .

and that is exactly the reason why I like them over all others- no stripes and wing dings. Just a serious performance option available to the best legendary performance car. Let the copy cats and buy wings and dings and stripes. That is why there are more judges today then ever. A 72 GTO WW5 was the most serious performance GTO ever produced.
You see, different owners/buyers appeal to different things and not everyone wants extra visuals that do nothing but add actual and visual weight to an already heavy car.
To each their own but, you will never see me put a wing on mine. I might have done that when I was 16 but, not as an adult.
The WW5 option is the most extensive performance package ever offered and it had no 'visuals'/ How refreshing.
