The rules with NHRA I believe is bell housing shield and Tranny shield. Depending on 1/4 mile times. I had no room for a shield so new Tranny case.
You could've used a blanket instead of a shield on case

I don't need any shields with the Reid case. That's was my reason for buying it. Safety factor. I tried putting a blanket on the Tranny. I hated it and the shield. lol. But Thanks for the suggestion Darby.

I think at the time around 1800 US plus the bellhousing was around 270 US

I don't believe JW make a transmission. My understanding is Reid and ATI. The big suppliers have there own brand and then there is Speedmaster.

Got a few minutes to start working on it today. I hooked up a gauge, at idle ( 1000 rpm) it has 185-190 psi. @3000 rpm it has 210 psi. These reading were about the same in park, neutral and 3rd gear.

Ya those are good reading with a manual valve body. Mine is only at 160 -180. It's suppose to be 180-225. I know 225 is a bit high for my liking. I'm gonna try get it set 180-200. I bought a couple springs from Hughes for my pump. I remember when the kit and springs were new. It was around 225 psi.

When I bought my brake from them the tech guy said they were going to make one. Maybe it fell through.
When does Speedmaster have their big sale every year ?

I have a good friend that works at JW and a Pontiac faithful. They are making cases, they will sell a complete trans with Ultra Case only for now. Will eventually sell case separately once they know everything is good. Knowing Jon jr, he is very picky when it comes to his products.

It's 3/4" galvanized pipe. I welded all the joints after I screwed it together I had it assembled, no transmission on it and I leaned on it. It held my body weight which unfortunately (..lol) is considerably more than a th400

Little tidbit of information: I been reading about TH400 tranny pressures and cooler line pressures. So I just connected my pressure gauge to the cooler inline from the transmission and I measured 60 psi. The pressure on my pump that I checked was 160 psi. I'd like to see it at 180-200psi. I may have to shim the pump spring or install new one.
Anyway, I believe when the converter feed is restricted in the pump, this is also the pressure you see in the cooler lines. Can anyone confirm this? I drill my converter feed in the pump to .125 Test was done with cold fluid and cold tranny. Thanks

I just took the transmission out this morning, turned it over to check a few things.
1 -identified the valve body part# ..The scribed numbers on the valve body plate are "cheetah..24142A-95015" pics attached
2- large washers stuck at the rear of the valve body jammed in the case..visible in the pics .
3-. Stock TH400 pin to activate the band. I verified the pin length against another TH400 I dissembled a few weeks ago. I sent a pic of the washer to the builder asking nicely WTH???
I am sending the valve body back to Turbo Action for them to inspect and make sure it works correctly. I need to buy the correct pin for the. 4L80 band. Anyone have a part number ? Or do I just go to a Transmission shop and buy it?

Those are the magnets that get glued to the pan.

What pin are you talking about. Rear servo for reverse?

The servo pin, the band was switched from the 1" TH400 band to the 4L80 band which is 1.22" wide. But everything I read says the pin must be changed for the longer pin. It's near .250 longer than the TH400 pin.

Sonnax makes an adjustable pin part 34912-01K. You could just weld a pin on it or cut it to proper length. A good read.

So, when checking to see if the pin engages the band fully, how do I see that. I pressed the servo but cannot see anything. So I need to remove the pump and look down from the top?

I’m getting confused. Rear band or front band?
