Default "Key buzzer " question

1970 Formula. The "Key in ignition when door is open Buzzer" sounds off when my door is open but NO key is in the ignition. When I close the door, the buzzer stops sounding. I assume the problem is with the apparently original Relay but I hate to replace it with a new/Reproduction relay as I have had problems with the reproduction units in the past. Any suggestions to correct this or do I just disconnect the wire that goes to the far left side of the relay? Thanks.

More likely the key buzzer switch in the column ...they are fairly easy to change and are different for tilt and non tilt columns Ames M156DL

yeah, it sounds like it's grounding out.

These little do-dads fall in my "very frustrating" category for sure.

Grounded out, short to ground, the buzzer would go off with door open or closed.

Stuck button in lock cylinder, broke buzzer switch, or brass contacts, from buzzer switch, are messed up where they touch the bottom of the turn signal switch.

The key buzzer " switch " in the column, partially above the
Key tumbler, has a special spring tab on the back side of it that is NOT reproduced. Don't loose it when you extract the 2 prong buzzer switch.this keeps pressure on the activation tab on the tumbler assy. As stated, there are 2 different switches.

Default Update

Received new Buzzer switch and have moved turn signal switch out of the way. I now have clear access to the old buzzer switch. When I attempt to remove old switch with a long nose pliers, the buzzer switch will not release. It feels like the buzzer switch is hitting a stop of some sort. I put key in to ignition and giggled it a bit but still cant remove old switch. What an I missing here? Thx.

Ignition switch should be in the RUN position. Procedure is in the Service manual under the Steering Column chapter.

Default Update

I got the switch from Ames and it was $20. I turned the key to the run position per OG68 and I got the old switch out with a bit of a pull with long nose pliers. I then inserted the new switch and then put the key to the off position. Problem is; I tested the new switch after reinstalling the TS switch but now the buzzer does not work at all, I also noticed that I can remove the new buzzer switch with the key in the "off Position". I tried again to firmly push the buzzer switch all the way down, but it can still be removed with the key in the "off" position. ??

There is a spring tab ( copper) that is supposed to be installed on the switch , then install in the column.
the replacement switches do not come with this tab that holds the switch in place against the tumbler.

I can see the spring tab is still in place in the cavity where the switch slides in to. So I need to remove the spring tab and then put the tab and switch back in as a unit?

I got it now. Didn't realize I had to remove that spring and attach it to the new Buzzer switch. Thanks again.
