Seats: Bench, Bucket or...
Hello,
I have a decision point to make on my resto-mod 1966 Tempest. I can get factory buckets, factory bench (original installed item) or do a late model bucket seat setup with shoulder belts in the seat (Ford F-150 seats). I plan on keeping a column shift for now, so any seat will do. I'm leaning towards the Ford seats only because I plan to drive the car a lot and safety is always on my mind. Cost is about equal for the buckets and about less than half for the bench. I appreciate your input and ideas and please if you have done any mods, show me your pictures so I can get an idea of what it would look like. (BTW the shop has a set of 2005 GTO buckets and rear seats that they can install in the car, probably at twice the cost of the the others) |

I'd do a Bench just to be different.

When I hear resto mod that usally mean the suspension is made to corner and a LS engine.
If that is the case I would want a bucket seat with side support to hold me in place. There are several seats that have built in seatbelts so I would do some measuring and see what will fit. In any case you would be looking at some modified brackets. The BMW M3 has some good seats. I like both bench and buckets for different reasons. The bench is nice when you want to fit one more in and they also also nice and roomy. |

If you are worried about safety, your vehicle selection couldn't be worse. These cars are super death traps, and the type of seat/restraint has no bearing on the outcome.

My cornering days are almost over, and the bench has benefits when the old man needs to stretch or take a nap when the vacuum cleaner is running in the house!! My idea for resto-mod is comfort and dependability with enough go-power to keep a grin on my face!! Last edited by arcitech; 06-28-2012 at 05:42 PM. Reason: additions |

My insurance company doesn't think it is a "super death trap", please don't let this get around, I only pay around 300.00 a year for full converage!!

I say bench. I've had both in a '66 full size and the bench is cooler looking IMHO.
Post pics! I also have a '66 Tempest, slightly modified.....see avatar and profile rOB...

Love your "Cats"! I'm set for a bench seat, it will fit the vibe of the car, cruiser not a bruiser! Plus the wife can sit close and make sure I'm not speeding!!

I have a bench in my 65 Tempest and I love the granny look (til you fire it up and it sounds like a dragster!) Plus I dig it to have the chick sitting next to me when we are cruising!
