Run a vacuum test on the inlet line of the pump, that'll tell you if it's sucking or not.
You can see the eccentric thru the pump hole. it has an outer ring that turns and the inner should be tight to the cam. Mike Mike

A '62 with A/C (in Texas, especially) is a relatively rare and nice thing to have. You can still go fast and stay cool. I'd think twice about getting rid of the A/C - just my 2c.

I would think AC cars would show up mostly in Texas in these early years. I'm not too sure if I'll get rid of it but it would shave some weight off my big ol' boat!

Scale that car before you put it on a diet. It may surprise you as it is.

FWIW, I have owned about 7 '62s built in Arlington Texas, and ALL were factory AC cars... RARE for us up nort (or back east) but S.O.P. in the lone star state, even that far back.

Yes, I got your email and IO will contact him tonight. I'll let you know what I find out
I would be happy if this car weighed what the title said...3200 lbs. haha I'm betting it's more like 3900+. 100 lbs goes a long way

Here she with the spare bumper put on. Looks a lot better than the bumper that was on it.
And this is how I think I want to paint it. The yellowish/orangish will be a metallic gold. There was a black '62 GP in the Muscle Car Review Top Ten issue with gold paint in those spots. It looked SWEEET! So I thought white would look cool with Gold high lights. Kind of like the 1970 Chrysler 300 Hurst Edition cars. The Gold would also kind of go with the brown interior

Did you say you were holding out for 3.64 gears or are you getting 3.42's ?

The only cheater slicks that fit a 14" rim are 27-28" tall and 7-8" wide. So I guess I should go for the 3.64s. I have a set of 3.42s but I think I'm going to put those in my '59
But with all that torque and such a small tire will the 3.64s be too low?

You'll find, or at least I did, that a lower gear's not always a great thing unless it's a dedicated strip car. My 72 G/P with a fairly radical 455 would turn more MPH at the same times with 3:08's as it did with 3:90's. it got a LOt better economy with the 3:08's and was more street freindly .

3.90s are pretty radical but I think a 3.42 would be a pretty nice street/strip gear
what did you GP run and what did it weigh?

I don't remember the scale wieghts, It's been too long. The best times it turned in true street trim were in the low 11.90's on the engine alone. Keep in mind this was in the late 80's so it was with all OEM parts. Bench seat, column shift car with factory A/C. In nice weather it was a daily driver.

My '66 GP has 3.42. If you are going on the Hwy. regularly you will run 3 grand at 70. Not comfortable on a long trip like say 3000 miles, but it can handle it. I am with Mike.
