Default Underhood Lamp Kit for 1970 GTO - OEM vs. M&H

Resto is just about complete, but I need an underhood lamp kit for my 1970 GTO.

I am assuming it was standard equipment, or was it an option? How would you know (don't see anything on PHS).

It looks like all of the parts suppliers sell the M&H kit. How close to OEM is the kit M&H sells?

Alternatively...anyone have a NOS/OEM that they are willing to sell?

M&H looks like this...

Found this online for a 1970 GTO (see below). It appears that the underhood lamp option appears on PHS docs as a line item (see second to last item in left column).

I guess that since I don't have that listed on mine, it wouldn't be correct to install. How does that impact the underhood insulation? I assume there is only one insulation option with the cutout for the lamp and non-optioned cars would just have the hole, or was there a different version of the insulation?

Verigto, The optional underhood lamp is mounted to the firewall just to the passenger side of the air cleaner/ram air pan and had a little button switch (very much like the brake light switch) on the driver side of it that the hood bracing depressed when shut all way. The switch was mounted in a metal bracket that mounted to the top of the firewall. There are 'pilot dimples' in the upper firewall where the factory bracket screws go. The pictures aren't the best, but if you look closely, you can see the bracket and switch/button (white) in photos 0512181158a & 1158b behind the RA pan. The other photo you can see the light housing mounted on the firewall.

I hope this helps!

The light fixture itself is different from the normal hood mounted assemblies as mentioned above. Every now and then, a new in the box assembly comes along on Ebay or elsewhere.
The wiring feeds from the fusebox battery terminal to the switch, then to the light.
Service manual should have a page or two regarding installation.

Photos from my 68. Wire clips are wrong.

Thanks for the pics and explanation. Mistakenly thought that's what the cutout on the insulation pad was for.

So...is that what the second to last item (671) on the PHS I posted is?

I think the cutout is to provide clearance for the lamp hood.
Item 671 is the under hood lamp pictured

If you need more light under hood, those little stick on hockey puck LEDs are great for that and they come with remote control for a couple of bucks and don't do any damage to the car.
