Very cool! I've often wondered what happened to all these types of cars. When David Friedberger was editor for Car Craft he did a section on old featured cars. I really looked forward to those issues, unfortunately shortly after he started the series he left the magazine for another job.

Thanks for posting

I think these 70s cars will be the next trend. There’s very few left and can you just see this bird restored to as shown in the magazine at mcacn? 70s disco chicks and display ! Idk maybe it’s cause I was a kid back then watching corvette summer but I think this would be an awesome display!

And it was a real 400 car. It’s funny there was a RAIV 69 done up like this too that’s now restored stock. It’s a great car stock but I liked it when it was 70s style too

I’ll be seeing my friend in a few weeks. If he still has the Proud Bird I’ll get a few more pictures.

Little too much of wheel flares for my taste but I will say that rear bumper looks perfect on there....looks like it belongs there. Corvette rear bumper?

Yes ‘68 Corvette rear bumpers and license plate surround.

It’s over the top but consider the time frame, it was perfect back then.

Had to live it I guess I fully understand and appreciate the absurdity of it all.
This was a time of dragons painted on vans chain steering wheels, BIG FLARES and frenched antennas.. then there were the jacked up air shocks and bigs and littles too.

I think cheech said it best “it was lowered to the ground had twice pipes, candy apple red , button top, OOHH CLEAN “

I agree, especially if it was a factory 400 car.

A comment taken from the BAT auction:

“Funny how many “car guys” (and gals) don’t know or appreciate the history of custom cars and the hobby/lifestyle we all enjoy. This thing is freakin’ amazing, and ridiculously cool. It’s the equivalent of the baddest pro touring ride you’d see today, only for it’s time in history. Appreciate it and where we came from, because I can absolutely guarantee where we’re at now with blacked out giant wheels and black powder coat where chrome bumpers were, stupid custom emblems, wrap “paint jobs”, carbon fiber, and questionably tasteful custom interiors, steering wheels, shifters, and gauges will be the brunt of many, many jokes to future generations of car people, and you’ll be sitting in the same spot as this car….. I don’t even think I’d restore it, I’d preserve the body and paint the best I could, make the suspension and steering safe, build a high winding, period correct small block with gold Moroso everything on it and t handles holding down the valve covers, some bigger tires on the old Cragars to fit the flares better, and I’d drive the you know what out of it….Awesome car, seller. Good luck with your auction.”

I couldn’t agree more.

Noteworthy enough to be featured in the Angeles/McCarthy book.
