Default Gauge size

Are the gauges in the 63 LeMans the same size as 64 an 65?

Default Gauge Size

The tachometer is the same size. The only difference is the 63 Tachometer has a stud on the back of the casing to help mount the cluster in the dash. The 64 unit does not. I bought a 64 repro unit from OPGI and used some epoxy to install a mounting stud in the correct location. Works fine

Default 63 Lemans Tach vs. 64 GTO tach

First 2 photos, original 63 Tempest-Lemans tach.

Photos #3 and #4 = 64 GTO or Lemans factory tach.

Although used tachs for these years car are no longer common to find at swap meets. For the 63 Pontiac made 4 cyl tachs as well as V8 tachs.

For the 64 Lemans & GTO cars they made a 6 cyl tach as well as the more often found V8 tach. The V8 tach is the one you usually see. I would say a 6 cyl tach would be super-rare to find.

Usually the tach is ink stamped on the back for the proper cylinder engine it's calibrated to run off of. But sometimes that ink stamp fades away or gets scratched off by a previous owner.

I was hoping a 65 tach would fit, a little easier to read.

The way those gauges are mounted I don't think that would work.

It looks like if you bought the whole 65 gauge cluster it would bolt in. Maybe a few mounting mods but it looks doable. I have a 65 clock glass and it's exactly the same size.

I discovered that 65 GTO gauge pod will fit in a 63 dash housing, notice the Tach needle by the gas gauge.
