Jesse,
Is that my old car? I sold it to a guy in Raleigh, who spun a rod bearing in it. Is the last name on the title Briggs or McGee? Briggs drove it in Raleigh a few years before spinning a rod bearing. I ended up with it back, then sold it to a guy in Wilmington. I don't know what happened to it after that. Mike |

Yes it is Mike...had it stored at Dad's in VA for past 9 years, decided to let it and a couple others go.

For anybody who is interested, this is one solid car.
I owned it from about 1988 until around around around 1998 or so. I sold it to a buddy who lived not too far away. He drove it about two years, and spun a rod bearing while running a little hard. I got it back in trade and sold it to another friend in Wilmington. The car has always been a NC car. It was bought for a girl as either a 16th birthday or high school graduation present. She lived in central NC (near Albemarle). She took it off to college (UNC-Chapel Hill, I think), where it saw a lot of short trip miles. I saw it when it went up for sale in the mid-80s after she was out of college. It had a slight miss in the engine. Another guy bought it, only to have the engine go out shortly after buying it. I bought it from him, and after tearing down the engine I found one of the rear cam lobes had been wiped out. I stuck a 71 YS short block in it with 6X heads and drove it for about ten years. I may still have the original engine for the car scattered about the basement. I don't remember exact miles, but they were well under 100K at that time. My buddy who I sold it to was working at a body shop at the time he owned it. The car still carried the original silver paint, which was dull and cracked. Overall, the car was very rust-free. It had a few scabs around the back window trim, but there were no holes anywhere. Todd began stripping and primering the car with intentions of painting it. I don't remember the quarter panels having any rust at all. Floors and trunk were rust-free. It was never involved in any major accidents. As far as I know, the only accident it was ever involved in was the light bump around the front fender marker light on the passenger side. When the motor went out, my friend didn't have the patience to rebuild the engine or find another motor for it. The only reason I didn't keep it was due to lack of room. I just had nowhere to put it, and too many other irons in the fire. I believe the guy in Wilmington was planning to make a drag car out of it, but never got around to it. If anybody has any questions about it, let me know. |

Thanks Mike...appreciate the history.
And yes, I got it from the guy in Wilmington (McGee), Briggs is the name on the title, never changed it over.

Very cool back story on this 75 Formula- mine isn't matching numbers either, but does have an early 75 481988 400 installed in it. And at least this Formula isn't stripped of all of it's goodies either.

To be honest, it did get somewhat stripped.
My buddy tied up a lot of money in this car. When I had it, it had a set of 81 Turbo wheels on it and a double snorkel air cleaner off of an early Formula. After buying it, my buddy added a complete Flowmaster exhaust (now on my 74 T/A), 8" snowflake rims, and a factory ram air system. As soon as the bearing spun, we pulled the engine because he was giong to put a crank kit in it. This car was his only transportation, and he got impatient and found something else. My buddy didn't have the funds to buy another car, so I bought the engine, dual snorkel, the ram air cleaner, the exhaust, the WS6 and turbo wheels from him. This got him enough to get into another driver. At first, he was undecided on what to do with the car, but storage issues ended up forcing the sale to another friend in Wilmington. I really wish I had the room for it, but I was full up myself. |

I had a few PMs about the car, so I'll answer them here.
The rear end has been changed. I believe it originally had a 2.56 open in it. My buddy wasn't afraid to light the tires. Not too long before he spun the bearing, the rear end began clunking. We pulled the cover and found the pinion bolt had sheared off. We replaced the rear with another rear end I had. I'm sure it wasn't a limited slip, and I think it was a 2.73 I had lying around. I believe the rear is out of a 73 Formula. I probably still have most of the top end off of the original engine. It was a 350-4V and had 5C heads on it. I believe I ran the original carb and intake on the 400 I stuck in it. I had the block for awhile, but I don't remember if I hauled it off. There wasn't much of a demand for 350 blocks back then. The car originally had 15" rally wheels. When I had the car, the a/c system was fully functional and held a charge. I believe it was still working when my buddy had the car. I don't think the a/c system has ever been opened up. I replaced the a/c compressor at around 150K miles. The car originally did not have factory instrumentation. I modified the original wiring harness to accommodate factory gauges shortly after I bought the car in the 80s. |

I bought my 75 Formula project car because it still had some of the 'goodies'- a 400 w/ 6x heads, intake and Q-jet, 4-speed, dual exhaust w/ 40 series Flowmasters, and what I think are the original Rally II's. I have alot of work ahead of me, but it's nice to have something to start with. My Formula also has factory Rally gauges and Deluxe interior, but the Horsecollar seats and Formula wheel got stripped at some point.
350P's are cheap and usually found in running condition- pick one up for less than $300 and it would make this 75 Formula a nice driver. Geno |

Hood fit is extremely nice to top of fenders, not humped up in middle like most.
A/C compressor and P/S pump lines never disconnected.

Is the interior just in need of a good cleaning?

Yes it needs cleaning...been sitting about 9 years.
Front seats need recovering, rear seems fairly decent, door trim panels could be used but not perfect, lower plastic door panels are not all broken up. Dash is cracked on center / top, needs a dash cap. Console is actually pretty decent considering the age, but the console compartment lid needs replaced.
