Default 74-76 Birds projects worth ?

I have to admit those years 74-76 Firebirds always flew under my radar. Despite a high school friend who had a real cool '74 candy apple red T/A with a 455 , 4 speed and Cragar SSTs ...I still only had eyes for 70-73s and 77-78 models.

Since I live in a country were any vintage car that is barely solid (forget about rust free) is worth looking at. So when ever a even vaguely "rust free" projects pops up on marketplace and is less than 6 hours drive away, I get excited.

So project number 1 is:

A 1976 Trans Am (real deal) original 400 auto (low options), old unfinished project stopped for numerous years, dangling on a hoist with new front end bushing, ball joint and subframe bushings. all body work done on shell and painted clear coated( new roof, cowl, floors, etc), front panels are not painted, neither the bumpers, hood , skirts etc... but all are included (shaker, bumpers, etc...) rusted fenders though. interior needs finishing and a windshield

Price : 5000$ without engine and transmission or 9000$ including newly rebuilt original 400 engine and th350.

Project #2 is:

1974 plain jane Firebird black on grey (owner says it has a 400), automatic car, car is rough looking but owner says is all solid ( I'm sure it has rot in a couple spots), car is complete just been in a barn for 3 years. so needs to be refreshed all over.. car is kinda cool for being the small back glass bird.

Asking Price 5000$

What would you guys pay for those and which one you'd rather buy?
Thanks for playing...

Peter

I bought a 1976 Firebird with a swapped in 455 about 6 years ago. I wanted a T/A but they were about 15-20,000 more. I got a "plain Jane" that I could do whatever I wanted with. To me, the one that needs the less amount of body and paint work, would be my choice. Mine was painted and had replacement panels, being a Michigan car. I can do the mechanical stuff but body and paint, no thanks.

Been watching that 76. Good deal for 9g canadian. Could be made into a nice driver for 20g over the winter. Its a actual TA, will be worth more in the end. I have 1.5 years and over double the money into my 76 TA. All depends to what level you want to take it.

I prefer the looks of 74-76 over 77 and later cars. And I prefer 74-75 over 76. I'd get the 74 and turn it into a Formula.

Depends on your skill level I guess...neither are overpriced

If the bodywork is solid I would hit the TA - 76's are beautiful no matter which angle and the motor is already done - by who...that's another question

I had a 74 for twenty years and it was going to cost way too much to restore so I bot one mostly done from down south....bodywork is stupid expensive if you not DIY

Yeah i have a couple 400s in stock including a very fresh 78 400 with rebuilt thl350 from a 77 TA I could put in the 76. So id buy it as a roller , but if the original engine had been built a known builder and 6k in receipts I would maybe consider the whole.package.

But hard to justify paying this much more just to get the original 400.. not like people would go crazy over a matching number low optioned 400 auto 76 TA.

Only original once...why not sell the block you have to fund the new one? Not trying to influence you but just putting an idea out...

Pontiac blocks are scarce around here...maybe an ez sell?

I wish my pontipig had the original motor...lol

Yeah I've thought about it, but I have already so many cars and motorcycles and the barn full of projects, I need to take the time to go inspect that project thoroughly cuz I made a promise to myself to not buy anymore basket case projects !
