Default Rollback mileage on Dodge Ram

Anyone familiar with rolling back the mileage on a 2006 Dodge Ram?

It's lease is up and I am 3000 miles over and it's very expensive per mile when over.
Anyone have experience in what can be done to reduce or hide mileage?

Would like to take off about 2500 miles. I know the next guy will not know but it's only 2500 miles. It would put it back into full warrenty so it would help the next owner.

It hasn't been serviced in 4000 miles.

You do realise this is a criminal offense , right?

Also the PCM stores the mileage.

It's only illegal if I'm caught

I normally wouldn't do it but because it would put it back under warranty for someone else than I don't have a problem with it. It's beginning to have many issues and someone is going to need warranty.

That's why I don't EVER lease a car or truck. I put on too many miles. PLUS at the end of the lease you have NOTHING for the money you put out.

But when you own a company, a lease is the cleanest way to get some money back.

I would not want to own this truck because it's literally falling apart. I can't wait to give it back before something fails that I'll be responsible for.

It's illegal. You will get caught if you monkey with it. Like Mike said... "the PCM stores the mileage".

Well I'm getting the responses that I expected!

I'll eat the mileage fee.

I've always believed dealerships have the ability to roll back mileage.
Anyone know anything on this?

Yep, they used to until the digital electronic speodometers came into being. And that was the reason they came about... mileage fraud. There could be jail time if you get caught tampering with it. Canada is tough on that. A year as Bubba's girlfiend isn't a happy thought.

Can't do it, true mileage is kept in all modules not just the cluster.

Shoulda bought a GM truck instead of a stinkin Chrysler crapmobile. That'll teach ya also about leases I hope. You don't do them. The whole leasing concept is in favor of the dealer.

Default Lease vehicle:

Why not just pay the extra mile charge and be done with it. That way you aren't doing anything illegal and you can also right off your mileage charge too. Thet do hook up the computer to cars when they are turned in and the will go after you because dealersdon't want to take any chances these days with issues like this.

Ferris Bueller jacked up the car and ran it in reverse.

Oh, wait! That didn't work out so well.......

I would pay the penalty, but that's just me.

Not sure what kind of response you were hoping to get, but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask.

LOL!

Default Rolling back odometers

So it's only illegal if you are caught.....Hmmmmm.....your mentors in life must have been real interesting individuals.

Hats off to you guys who took the moral high road with your responses.

This is a good example of what's wrong with our society. People not taking responsiblity for their actions and behaviors...........

Must be a little humid where some guys are today by the responses....

Obviously this is something that is not being done anymore and that was the intent of the question. I still believe taking 2-3000 miles off and benefiting the next owner is acceptable.

Taking 50000 miles off to screw someone personally is a different matter. However, most would rather see the next owner warranty-less and Chrysler LLC save $500.

71 T/A: My last 8 GMC's HD's were just as sh!tty as my current Dodge. Hence the change. No difference really; they're all garbage.

I think that the next owner would want to know the correct mileage of the vehicle she/he is buying. The value of the vehicle depreciates as mileage is added. You aren't doing anyone any favors.

I think you are trying to get out of the penalty.

Deal with it.

The humidity has NOTHING to do with an intentional deception on your part.

Obviously, you will do what you want. Bradkline was correct in his post.
