A little burnout action for you guys
Got a slight break in the winter weather, but it looks like a Nor-Easter is coming this week, so I had to take the GN out for a little beatdown before it goes back into hibernation.
This was on only 16psi on 93 octane. Next time it rolls out of the garage it'll be on 25psi with VP M1 methanol spraying through it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2n7snQ...ature=youtu.be

I did a "Burn-out" like that for 4 city blocks back in 1973 with a 64 GTO.
It was 11:00 pm on a deserted street and I had 3 other guys in the car with me. Not sure what it proved at the time. That being said, very nice burn-out with a Turbo Buick V-6 powertrain and low boost. One of my favorite cars. Loved to watch Ken Duttweiler race his GN. Boost 4 EVER! Tom V.

Good running GN. Kinda sounded like that it was in second or 3rd gear most of the way. 25 psi you’ll be doing that OD!

Got the Alky kit, front mount intercooler, and some M1 sitting on the shelf. Whenever spring actually shows up, it should run pretty good for what it is.

Looks like you had fun with some "rehearsals" before the final take.
Do we need a burnout thread? I'm eager to contribute, once the weather improves...

More Burnout action. a few years ago. it's a frontage road, as you can see the cars going by on highway above.
This road got used quite a bit for this purpose until somebody report a fire. Wasn't this time though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea2fgkkjmoI

With the boost turned up to 25 psi you will be able to do pretty much whatever crazy burnout you want to do. With the tires spinning it likely won’t be able to hit the 25psi to knock the boost down to tame the engine back down.
Back when I was in college, my brother and I built a fairly high boost blow thru setup on a smaller V8 and did a completely insane burn out. The car had 3.23s and a 3 speed automatic. I was riding shot gun, I watch my brother spool up the turbo, let go of the brake and the engine instantly went to 5000 RPM. He went to 3rd gear right away and the engine didn’t even change in sound, and the car had hardly moved forward. My brother held it at 5000 for a while, then he floored it. I watched it peg the tach at 7500 RPM and peg out the 150 mph speedo. No idea how many RPM’s it was turning. You couldn’t hardly see much beyond the car from all the smoke, and inside of the car filled with smoke like you see on funny car burn outs. We went like that for several hundred feet. Until the back of the car started to bounce a bit from the tires starting to come apart. My brother let off the gas and it spun the car around 1 and a half times and ended up sideways all after he let off the gas.. I don’t think we were ever going over 20 MPH the entire time. We were about a half mile from home were we did that burn out, both tires went flat before we made it home. Those black marks were there for several years. Never had a driveshaft come off and knock some sense in to me. Not on a burn out anyways. Wasn’t from lack of trying! Last edited by Jay S; 03-16-2023 at 10:36 AM. |

Lol…I should have mentioned my old burn out story had hard tires like BF GoodRich’s, trying burn outs with drag radials is both expensive and breaks stuff!
A guy I know had a Ford T bucket with a blown SBC that could always light the tires up at will. Until the one time he hit a tar patch just right on a temporary highway patch. It got ahold of that tar strip, and launched it, the front end came off the ground. The fiberglass seat he was sitting on broke the back off, completely surprising him, by the time he grabbed hold of the steering wheel again he was off in the ditch!
