Doesn't have a listing for the L.D. in 83, so I can't see if there were differences in L.D.'s; which there would have to be if the story is correct about the axles are different for N. Anyone have an older MPC they can check to verify?

I wrote it because its true. Of course I doubt you'll believe anyone who has chased N rears for nearly 15 years & has torn down & rebuilt multiple dozens of them. 2nd, '83 MPC is of no good = Superceded parts. Further... not only have '71, 72, & 73 dated master parts books, original factory service manuals also warn against mixing std & HD axles.

Why in the world would you say I doubt it? I wasn't sure who first said it, I just wanted to verify there is more to it than just another story passed on for years. Any chance of getting the data from the eary MPC? Or maybe scanning and posting the page?

If all you're wanting is the stamped Axle Id code on the axle tube, try my Axle Search page.

Input the year for a listing of each code for that year.
Or if you know the code input it.

Those GP rears should be the same as the GTO.
