Default 1960 trans problem

My torque converter started to leak; two questions. If I remove the trans from the bellhousing, the torque converter stays attached to the flywheel, which can be marked for reinstall and be lined up for trans install, am I correct? This two peice bellhousing is throwing me a curve!! Also, where can I get seals for the torque converter.
Any help is appreciated.

First off. If I remember correctly the flex plate/flyheel remains on the motor. You remove every other nut from TC witch attaches TC to flex plate. You can tell by looking which fasteners they are. There is a drain plug on TC which I think has access hole in flex plate for reference. If not you can mark it.
There are various places to get seals. Off the top of my head try Kanters on check in Hemings Motor News... Maybe Pontiac Jack or other "old timers" (like myself) will chime in..
The two piece bell housing is no big deal. The one attached to trans is a "adapter". Leave it attached to trans for removal..GM used this trans for many applications..from cars to military stuff..
Have you got a service shop manual? Be a good investment...

Thanks for the come back 60 man, it got me going. I'm getting the hydra matic manual I found on e-bay, and seals from the company I got the rebuild kit from. They are sending me just the converter seals. The company is Northwest transmission Parts in Ohio @ 1-800-327-1955 ask for Tom; if anyone can use it.

You definitely need that HydraMatic manual before doing anything. The "front end" of a Dual-Coupling Hydramatic is unlike modern automatics. Instead of a torque converter bolted to a flexplate, it uses a torus cover bolted to a flywheel. You might be okay "working blind" to remove the transmission from the car, but subsequently attempting any disassembly of the fluid couplings can easily damage parts, unless you have the manual to guide you. And advance buying of any seals, etc. would be a little foolish, since there are a variety of possible sources of your leak. Your best reference on these forums is 'stevep', who still services these transmissions. Also, 'PITTSBURGH 64' has run one for quite a while, and is pretty knowledgeable.
