Looking for 1970 GTO Convertible Advise
Sometime ago i purchased a 1970 GTO Convert as a parts car for one i already owned. After looking it over really good i decided that the car was in pretty good condition and it would be a shame to see this car striped and sent off to the junk yard. Long story short i decided to have the car restored even tho it didn't have a drive train. I found a restorer in the Naples Florida and i must say the cars body is absolutely beautiful after he worked his magic. It was orig Green and i am not a fan of green so i had the car done in Black. It was given new floors and new trunk area. I also had him put 1/4 panels, trunk lid and hood on it. My question is...would you guys do an LS conversion on it or put a 455 Pontiac motor in it. I would also like to know what the opinion would be as far as interior color choice. I realize most of you guys will say its your car do what you want, but i am just looking for some advice here. Thanks in advance for any opinions
Gene PS i purchased a 455 that has been rebuilt, but im still not sure. Hope i put this question in the right area of the site |

Black paint looks good with almost any interior color
It's hard to go wrong with a triple black car, but contrast is appealing.
My personal favorites for interiors on black cars are red and sandlewood (off-white). I really like white interiors, but Pontiac didn't offer white in 1970. |

i appreciate the LS platform, but that car deserves a 455 in my opinion
and triple black for the win

It depends on how mechanical you are - LT/LS conversions are not for beginners.
Tuxedo interior. I doubt the Florida sun is any less brutal than it was when I was stationed there 40 years ago. Last edited by Scarebird; 02-08-2023 at 05:40 PM. |

455 all the way to duck bay I say...that's what makes it a Pontiac
I'm partial to the stock black interior but those new Recaro's are pretty nice... |

455, 100%.
I’d do red on the interior. Black on black is over done in my opinion. But,,,,,,,,,,it’s your car, I’m all for making it the way YOU want it. Pics, pics, pics . . . . .

455, black, red or sandlewood..You can’t go wrong with any of the three.

Perhaps use an EFI and electric fan setup with the 455, best of both worlds?

I would do the 455, but run a Fi unit ( air cleaner fits) and an overdrive transmission ( auto or manual)
Good luck, and I can say that we ARE All ready for PICS!!

455 Pontiac with black and tuxedo interior would look awesome, in my opinion. My triple black 71 needed some color so I put Rally stripes on to break up all that black. Your mileage may vary.

455
TripleBlack tends to hide a 70 GTO since not much chrome involved. It looks Great with Judge Kit . Almost microwave oven effect in Florida though with TripleBlk Best looking Black 70 Convertible I have seen has Sandalwood Top and Sandalwood Interior But it is also a Judge |

I like a black interior and definitely like a Pontiac motor. I like the Judge look but no Judge name decals. There are some interesting stripe colors that would look cool on it.

Thanks guy for all the replies and opinions. Please keep them coming as it helps to know whats appealing to the GTO guys and whats not. Love to see some pics of your cars. Thinking at this point to do a red interior. I must say i am torn between red and tan. Some years ago i did see a triple black 70 go through a Mecum auction and i loved it. It actually gave me the inspiration to do this one in black. I never saw one with a red gut and red top. Wonder if that would be to much. If i ever figure out how to add some pics of this car in this thread i will. Its not done but getting close

I was actually going to suggest a red canvas top and Judge stripes with red interior.
The shop that has my 69 has a 71 Cutlass in white with red interior and it looks amazing. |

I am definitely going with the canvas top. Just need to see one in red. If not red i will go with black
