Default date coding sheet metal

Does sheet metal and bumper date codes follow the same timeline as the date codes for the drivetrain? In other words, would fenders or bumper dates have a window of 1 week to 2 or 3 months from the build date of the car like the motor, transmission, rear etc?

Various sheetmetal on my 68 range from four weeks out to just a few days before production. The majority are within 10 days.

did, My fender and bumper dates are month and day. Is your sheet metal julian dated? Could you tell me where to look for the other dates on the trunk, doors, qts and hood?

1/4 panel dates are on trunk lip near weather strip. firewall is near dist. rockers and doors are marked also .Doors are on inside, rockers on bottom. I think all large components were stamped.

If I remember the last numbers in the series are the week. The other numbers are stamping plant info.

The hood and fenders are month/day or month year . been awhile since I looked at mine

If there is a build up of primer or paint on the car these will be hard to see or not show

This is good to know , It can help tell if a car was re-bodied.
